Colourmusic certainly have an ambitious manifesto. They are aiming to make their upcoming album - a concept album about how human sexuality drives everything we do, i.e. they want to make an album focusing on every part of sex except the actual sex. An interesting, if perhaps a slightly thin idea for an album, the initial results sound promising as first single “Tog” is an accomplished synthesis of The Go Team! and Arcade fire.

So yup, it has de-tuned heavy floor toms, big hooky chants and marching rhythms. I’d be tempted to call it punk-psychedelia but really its more like, no, actually punk psychedelia will have to do. The heavy bass riff is almost overwhelmingly powerful and combined with the marching drums “Tog” takes on strong militaristic overtones. Maybe that’s the idea, but without being able to clearly make out the lyrics, you start to wonder what Colourmusic’re marching for…

How the concept about sexuality plays out in the music isn’t exactly clear from “Tog” but all signs suggest that the full length should be very interesting stuff.
