When you are searching for a metal band to really grind your gears (in a good way - Family Guy anyone?), think no further than Amon Amarth. This Swedish Death Metal band have roots going as far back as 1988 when they formed under the name Scum. In 1992 they became what they are now – a raging, Viking, metal powerhouse. Since 1992, the group has released seven studio albums, an EP, a DVD, and several music videos. They have also toured the world. Amon Amarth are nothing to mess around with.

From this single, entitled “War Of The Gods,” it is clear that Amon Amarth's next album will be nothing short of epic.
Since their first album, the band has released a project every year or two, picking up followers along the way. It makes sense that Johan Hegg, Olavi Mikkonen, Johan Söderberg, Ted Lundström, and Fredrik Andersson can book dates with Slayer, Children of Bodom, and appear in over 100 metal magazines! Amon Amarth means business – and they are not in the business to half-ass a product.

The Spring 2011 release of Surtur Rising is no exception. From this single, entitled “War Of The Gods,” it is clear that Amon Amarth's next album will be nothing short of epic. This whole packaged single starts off with a bang as the guitars plow through seemingly indestructible chords. The lyrics kick in quickly and they're all about a medieval war - classic Amon Amarth.

The guitars get technical with a rising chord progression which is a nice change of pace, whilst the lyrics also switch languages between English and Swedish. All hell breaks loose as the Swedish verse ends and the guitars jump off the deep end. "War Of The Gods" is some powerful metal.

The verses drive, the solos soar and the lyrics are deeply rooted. For a band that is approaching its' tenth birthday, Amon Amarth has far from lost its' steam.

Great things can be expected from Surtur Rising. Amon Amarth fans will be pleased with the fruits of their hard labor. The verses drive, the solos soar and the lyrics are deeply rooted. For a band that is approaching its' tenth birthday, Amon Amarth has far from lost its' steam.
