Republic/Universal
Well, normally I wouldn't do a review of one song, but I can do whatever I want, so here it is-
10 Years, from Knoxville, TN, will be releasing their major label debut The Autmn Effect later this summer. I am so excited I am about to shit myself. The first single 'Wasteland' just went out to radio and is getting a great response. The band has been touring with Drowning Poo for a little while now, and even though Drowning Poo sucks ass, 10 Years has been tearing it up and stealing all their fans.
GOOD
Anything we can do to get mainstream rock fans turned onto something decent, I say do it. Now for the actual review:
'Wasteland' is a song very familiar to people that are familiar with 10 Years. This has been their 'signature' song and is more or less the reason they were noticed. It's a kick ass powerhouse track that gives a very clear glimpse into what the band is all about. They are all about getting inside your head and kicking your heads ass.
It would be easy to say that 10 Years want to sound like Tool. It would be easy to say that because Jesse happens to sing like Maynard. Lay off though...that's how the dude sounds..he can't fuckin help it. Evidence of this comes through their other tracks, where he continues to sound like that. It's an unfortunate blessing, and hopefully the strength of the songs will fend off any such accusations. 'Wasteland' is a phenomenal first track to hear from a new band, and hearing what else they are capable of has me wickedly excited to see what they will do now that they have Universal's wallet backing them up.
