Spread the Social Love:
Two months ago when we were treated to a lovely English summer, Alexander Tsotsos aka GummiHz released a breezy and grooving EP titled Head Rush, under his own record label Claap. The summer is now coming to an end, but producers like GummiHz manage to keep the heat going. Head Rush takes us back to the 90s with the sound of New York house, whilst GommiHz makes it contemporary and captivating. It’s breezy and cool, and a perfect summer track.
GummiHz is a Greek producer based in Berlin and is known to never fail in releasing excellent beats that work the floor. Since 2006, he’s been serving his unique mixture of house and techno, as well as incorporating disco, electro, jazz and chanson into his productions. His records have been acknowledged by popular DJs in the dance music scene throughout the world. He is known to lay his influences on the table whilst simultaneously taking them in new directions.
Featuring four new cuts, the producer includes a “Drums Out mix” on his EP, which is a more pumped up version of the original, stripped down to the drums and voices, whilst the “Secret Voyage” version taps into a more Balearic atmosphere, with organic rhythmical and percussive elements and accompanying hypnotic keys. “Ruff Passage” is a dubbier cut, created to make us reminisce the previous house producers of the ruff.
If you’re holding on to the summer, give this a listen. Head Rush is an old school odyssey and a solid EP - all the tracks are playable. I really liked the house feel in this. He digs right into his roots, raised on a diet of Chicago and New York house. Yet he also explores new grounds to make it contemporary. Claap certainly continues its streak of quality releases.
