Arabia is the second official release by Vancouver based, Brit producer Buffalo Tide, from the BLBX label. Four tracks bring you approximately thirteen minutes of stunning production and melodies, whilst the physical record includes a bonus track, bringing a blissful, conceptual sound for just under twenty minutes. Buffalo Tide has already received airplay by BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson, on his show “Fresh on the Net”, for his track titled “Parallelogram”. The producer now brings us a stunning EP that has an ongoing ambient sound throughout.

The EP opens with “Divine Lions”, featuring discreet sampling of rushing vehicles. It's energetic yet laid back at the same time. “Makes The Sky Smaller” is a track rich with vocal sampling and soft, ambient synths washed with reverb. Sweeping pads gracefully roll in and out of the track, making it reminiscent of Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85-92. The producer's sampling makes it an enjoyable listen.

“Ras Aljinz” is darker than the previous tracks, with a heavier, hip-hop tempo and synth. Chopped up sounds mixed with crashing waves and the sound of seagulls, provides another interesting track on the EP. “Princes” is a stunner, with a pad sloping its way in and out and gaps of silence at the beginning. Again you can hear the hip-hop influence within this track, yet at the same time, the producer maintains the ambient soundscape. Definitely a highlight on the EP.

“Loam Calendar (Sleep Cycle)” comes as a bonus track on the physical CD only and is played as a ‘locked groove track’. It opens with a long, continual sound that is heard throughout the whole track, whilst a gentle, female voice slowly counts to ten. What follows is a sound that makes you think of water drops falling from icicles in a cave. It is an absolutely stunning track and certainly makes the limited edition CD worth grabbing - it’s limited to only 100 copies. To sum it up, it’s a track that literally makes you stop what you’re doing once it starts playing.

Arabia showcases what is so far the producer’s finest work. Buffalo Tide, as well as the BLBX label, are two names to listen out for.
