On Monday, May 14th, Uncle Kracker’s “Hometown Tour” made a stop in N. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where Ty Stone, Sonia Leigh, and Uncle Kracker took the stage at the House of Blues.
Starting the night off right was opener, Ty Stone, who is a newbie country music artist. When this man took the stage I was not expecting to hear the vocals that came out of him, and I must say that I was certainly impressed. Complementing Stone’s vocal pipes was his guitar. Ty Stone is a one man artist, as it was just him and his guitar that stood before the crowd.
It has to be handed to the man; taking the stage alone without a backing band or even backing dancer’s takes some guts, but Stone seemed to have no problem winning the crowd over with his music as well as with his humor.
Up next was, Sonia Leigh, who was a little more well-known compared to the opening act. Sonia Leigh seemed different than most female country artists, as she appeared to look more like a rocker chick than as a country gal, but once she opened her mouth to sing she proved herself as a fitting country star.
Her set list seemed a bit long, but was totally worth your time and money. She was loud and proud and often thanked the crowd for being so awesome. One of the highlights of her performance was when she brought Ty Stone back to the stage, and they sang a duet together. Together, their voices worked nicely. Sonia Leigh’s raspy voice, her talented band, and her phenomenal stage presence made for an awesome performance that definitely got the crowd pumped for Uncle Kracker.
It was nearly eleven o’clock before Uncle Kracker took the stage, which I found to be interesting considering it was a Monday night and there were a number of younger fans out in the crowd. But, once this act took the stage the crowd went nuts, screaming and hollering. Uncle Kracker played a well-balanced show full of popular hits like ‘Follow Me’ and ‘Smile’, new songs such as ‘My Hometown’, and even some well-known cover songs like ‘Sweet Home Alabama’.
The light show was always on cue and helped to make this performance even better. One thing about attending an Uncle Kracker concert is that although it’s a country concert, it could have easily been made into a rock concert with the amounts of nonstop cheers and participation from the crowd. Not a single person was standing still. Each and every person in the crowd was dancing around and shouting lyrics right back at Uncle Kracker. Not only was the crowd enjoying themselves, but so was the band. Uncle Kracker was constantly saying good things about the show throughout the night, and even tweeted “Thank you so much Carolina! You make me wanna keep touring!” after the concert came to an end.
South Carolina had a strong connection with Ty Stone, Sonia Leigh, and Uncle Kracker which was clearly proven throughout the entire night. This southern state sure showed their southern roots and their southern pride throughout this wonderful country concert. With a crowd full of loud screams, flannel shirts, and cowboy boots, the audience enjoyed a night of great music and great times. At the end of the night, the final impression left upon both the artist’s and their audience was a good one and served as proof that you cannot take the country out of South Carolina. If this tour is coming to a city near you I highly recommend that you attend!
