On Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 Twin Atlantic, AWOLNATION, and Neon Trees brought a fun-filled night to those who stood before the artist’s at the House of Blues in N. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Up first was Scottish four-piece, Twin Atlantic. Not many in the audience were too familiar with this act, but it is safe to say that by the end of their performance many audience members had become fans. Being the first band up, Twin Atlantic was obviously the least well-known act of the night and had some impressing to do.
Without a problem, Twin Atlantic performed a show well done. They were full of passion, energy, and killer instrumental talent. Although a support act, the Caledonians has a way with immersing the crowd into their set and making you forget that they are only the first act.
Next up was popular act, AWOLNATION who continued on with the success of the night. AWOLNATION is another act who had much success in recruiting new fans. This act came out on stage ready to rock with their energetic performance. They played a number of their most popular songs, such as ‘Sail’. It was very clear that this act has some practice at putting on a good show. A show that was well-balanced between soft and heavy songs, AWOLNATION has much skill both vocally and instrumentally.
Their personalities shined throughout their entire performance, and it was very obvious to the crowd that AWOLNATION has phenomenal stage presence. Every inch that the band gave, the fans gave it right back. Overall, this performance was full of emotion, rowdiness, sweat, screams, and one heck of a good time.
And finally, headliners, Neon Trees took the stage. The crowd instantly threw their hands up in the air and shrieks of excitement came out of the audiences mouths. The band took the stage and the crowd went wild. Talk about an energetic crowd… Neon Trees sure know how to put on a great show! Lead singer, Tyler Glenn was clearly born to perform as he had zero problems with keeping the crowd on their feet. He had so much energy and seemed to never get out of breath despite the fact that he danced from one side of the stage to the next all night.
Glenn was not alone in knowing how to bop to the top. This pop act brought a vision to life with their full on neon light show, energetic charisma, vocals, instrumentals, and the chemistry between the band and the crowd. The performance was stellar and so many memorable moments were captured.
One of the highlights of the night was when the drummer sang a duet with Glenn. Their female drummer sure has a set of pipes on her! Glenn had at least three costume changes throughout the show, each going with the theme of the concert. Perhaps the best moment throughout the entire concert was when a few crowd members were moshing during their set. After Glenn could not watch this any longer he finally cut off the show and scolded the audience members saying, “Stop moshing! This isn’t a fucking Anthrax concert! This is a pop show!” As members in the audience tuned him out and continued to mosh, Glenn continued on with his spiel about how you do not mosh at a Neon Trees concert before he spit directly on the crowd.
This put an end to the moshing and made many audience members giggle from their spots. The show then went on and Neon Trees continued to wow the audience playing a number of popular hits, such as their biggest, ‘Animal’.
Overall, Twin Atlantic, AWOLNATION, and Neon Trees delivered a strong and a stunning performance. Each band was very different in style, but together they each made for a great night. The audience seemed to truly be moved by the performance that all three of these acts displayed. If this tour is coming to a city near you, I highly recommend that you make an effort to see them live. This certainly is a must-see event where being let-down is highly doubtful.
