The French house DJ returns with his fifth solo album, and with it a top contender for best Electro album of 2012. Interspersed with rattling cymbals and echoing harmonies, the "M" Megamix is an all too aurally satisfying escapade that leaves you yearning for a night of strong alcohol and packed dancefloors.
Top Parisian DJ I: Cube brings a whole host of fresh style to the tired electro genre with his new album "M" Megamix. Nicolas Chaix is a man of many sounds, and his first effort 'Picnic Attack' was rightly met with wide acclaim upon its 1997 release. Since first entering the French house scene the electronic dance specialist has been causing a stir wherever he went, with his 1996 remix of Daft Punk's 'Around the World' earning him a fanbase still loyal today.
The appeal of the album lies in its constant ability to ingest genres and display them in a distinct I: Cube style, drawing on electro, house, trance, dub, minimal techno and all sorts in between. The slick 80's beats of 'In Alfa' are the epitome of every contemporary artist's idea of clever retro, while the steady jungle thud and digital harmonies found in 'Jah Menta' could help any night wind down.
Top track of the "M" Megamix would have to be the smooth-as-ice 'Club Miniature'; an infinitely cooler option than Barry White for the 'getting a girl in your bedroom' playlist, and also much, much subtler.
"M" Megamix includes all three tracks of I:Cube’s latest 12-inch effort 'Lucifer En Discothèque', and merely adds to the enjoyment found in the rest of the album, with the 12-inch title track proving that when it comes to quality contemporary disco-house nobody does it quite like I: Cube.
