The Broken Glass EP is Barfod's first venture with Friends of Friends, a record that features two new cuts along with remixes from Permanent Vacations' Jacob Korn and beatboxing man of the hour Shlohmo.

Tomas Barfod's artistic outlook is unique to say the least, moving from drummer to studio with an encouraging level of competence. Broken Glass is a solid effort with opener 'Broken Glass' setting a good tone for the 12", ominous but expansive in sound and like all great first tracks, infinitely intriguing.

Second track 'Beach Party' lilts and bounces with enthusiasm, thudding the bass over steady waves of percussion and trance-inspired harmonies. This is one of the few tracks where the title accurately defines the perfect setting. 'Beach Party' would go down a storm blasting through speakers dug into the sand while waves crash behind.

The Jacob Korn remix of 'Broken Glass' brings a different take on the EP's opener, but the re-imagined tune lacks some of the 'oomph' found in Barfod's original, instead opting for a more club-based sound with a strong focus on the build up and drop, which in all fairness does help push the song into less eratic territory.

The Shlomo take on 'Broken Glass' is something else entirely, taking the track places you could never have imagined just minutes earlier listening to Barfod's original. The blend of the reverberant drum pattern, powerful vocal samples and soaring melody make this the best track of the Broken Glass EP, and on this record, that is quite an achievement.

The EP Broken Glass is out now along with Salton Sea, the full length album which was released 21st May.
