After meeting Robby Takac of the ‘Goo Goo Dolls’ he hand-picked New Yorker Alex Kelly to be the lead singer of his side band Amungus, and, after three years with Amungus and releasing an EP Sticky Butterfly in 2010, the time has come for Alex Kelly to take her solo career to the next level. ‘Orange Circle’ is the first single from Alex Kelly’s debut album of the same name and is, in short, a great pop song.

There are some rock tinges in ‘Orange Circle’ that Alex Kelly's powerful voice soars over effortlessly, creating a fun filled, 3 and a half minutes that you’ll want to listen to repeatedly. 'Orange Circle' has arrived just in time for summer and will no doubt provide the perfect soundtrack to the long days and nights ahead. The directness of the lyrics is welcomed, such as “we don’t care none // we can be ourselves and have fun // under the bright orange circle in the sun,” which are delivered with such sass and confidence that is impossible not to like.
In the middle of the song Alex Kelly breaks into an impressive rap that gives the majority of the rappers of today a run for their money. It also gives 'Orange Circle' that little bit of something extra to lift it above your average, run of the mill pop song.
There really is nothing not to like about 'Orange Circle.' It will put a smile on your face and get you moving from the second it starts coming out of your speakers. Alex Kelly is a great talent with a bright future ahead of her.
Be sure to go to her album release party @ The Bowery Electric in New York City, on June 25th 2012.
