One of the most interesting things about Pink is the development of her music as she matured and went through some life changing situations herself. One of my first memories of this lady was when I was a young teen, seeing her rebellious, screw society’s expectations, sort of attitude, combined with her punky look and blistering pop tunes, and I instantly caught the Pink fever. The strength and self-belief that encapsulated everything about her was not only admirable, but ridiculously attractive. Her talent is undeniable, with ‘There You Go’, her first single, making tectonic movements in the music industry and she’s not stopped since.
The 32 year old mum is back, after taking time out from making her tongue in cheek classics to raise her young family, she feels ready to get back in the game, and we’re all ridiculously excited to have her back in the driving seat. With a new studio album entitled The Truth About Love being created as I type, and set to be released September 17th this year, Pink’s given us something to listen to already with new single provocatively titled ‘Blow Me (One Last Kiss)’.
On first listen I was both excited and surprised by the intro, which displayed an uncharacteristic indie jangly guitar melody, imitating the likes of the Strokes or the Kooks, showcasing how Pink is going to be keeping us on our toes. The song bursts into the familiar Pink vocals, conveying a simple, ‘I’ve had enough’ story which we can all relate to, which is part of Pink's magic. Her ability of taking fragments of stories that we have all played the main character in at some point of another and adding some anthemic music to it, turning it into a sort of soundtrack.
The pulsating bass, energetic drums wrapped with the same guitar melody are contemporaneous with what we think of when we think of previous Pink singles. Her cheeky lyrics, a mammoth chorus and playful experimentation with creative ideals, we see both new and old Pink. Her musical journey has twisted and turned over the years, to comply with the ever changing society and its expectations, yet her stoic character and strength remains the same. Maybe some would argue that ‘Blow Me (One Last Kiss)’ is too reminiscent of her previous work, but I strongly believe in the saying “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”.

This is a delicious taster of what’s to come, and I’m salivating at the thought of listening to her new album this September. If her other 5 albums are anything to go buy, even her filler tracks are absolute classics, so the new album promises to be jam packed full of thrilling pop goodness.
