On Friday, July 13th, 2012 fans (18+) gathered at the Key Club in W. Hollywood, California for a rather special birthday performance. Headlining act Ryan Cabrera was celebrating his 30th birthday with his family, friends, and fans. To ring in his birthday right, three diverse yet extremely stunning opening acts; Solomon, Tim Myers, and Hunter Parrish joined Cabrera in making this a celebration for all to remember. Both Parrish and Cabrera’s performances were being filmed live and streamed via Stage It for fans worldwide to catch.

Kicking the birthday festivities off was upcoming singer Solomon, whose set consisted of well-balanced hip-hop and pop sounds. For an upcoming artist, Solomon took the stage with the right attitude and his dedication to his art was apparent. Obviously here to party, Solomon kept the crowd pumped as he and his talented dancers moved from one song to the next. Popular songs of the night were: ‘West Coast’, ‘Round and Round’, and ‘Dancing On My Own’.

Tim Myers
took the stage ready to show the crowd that “life’s a party”. Singing songs of love and life, this artist certainly gave the crowd something to cheer about. Playing cheery upbeat songs like ‘Yes’, ‘Technicolor’, and ‘Under Control’, Myers had the crowd clapping and swaying to the beat. With clear vocals and strong instrumentals an extravagant sound was created. Having formerly been the bass player for popular band One Republic, playing one of their hits came to no surprise. During ‘Stop and Stare’ voices from wall-to-wall could be heard singing the lyrics in sync with the artist.

Hunter Parrish
came prepared to put on a memorable performance for those at the Key Club, as well as for those who were streaming his video live from home. This pop artist is much more than just a pretty boy, he has quite the set of vocal pipes. Full of energy Parrish kept all of the fan girls screaming and hollering throughout his entire performance. One dedicated fan even flew all of the way from New York just to see Parrish perform live. During his performance the fan presented him with the ever so delicious cake balls that many are so fond of. Full of excitement Hunter Parrish gave her a shout out for traveling and a huge thank you for the yummy treats. Vocally sounding soft and sweet, along with hopes of winning brownie points with his mother who was in the crowd, Hunter Parrish told his story behind ‘Oh Mother’ before beginning to sing this beautiful song. Just like the prior two acts, Parrish was a joy to see.

After three phenomenal opening acts it was time for the birthday boy (official birthday is July 18th) to finally be passed the microphone. As soon as he stepped foot onto the stage, the crowd went crazy shrieking “Happy Birthday” to the artist. For many, this night brought back memories of a few years back when Cabrera was their “teenage heartthrob” and posters of him hung all over their bedroom wall. Following every song number came piercing screams from the crowd. As Ryan Cabrera performed it was obvious that this man has much confidence and displays wonderful stage presence. Despite the many technical difficulties that occurred throughout Cabrera’s set, this man did not let it put a damper on his show. While the tech team helped Ryan Cabrera fix the problem, the crowd took it upon themselves to break out in a song of their own. Singing the traditional “Happy Birthday” song, a smile appeared on Cabrera’s face as he thanked the crowd for being so tremendous. He also told the audience about how it was a weird birthday for him because turning thirty made him feel “old”. Kicking it up a notch, Ryan Cabrera did not let his age stop him as he raised the energy bar to an all-time high level. Covering all of his well-known hits, Cabrera’s set was well-balanced between upbeat numbers and slower melodic songs. It does not matter what his age is, the man still has an amazing voice. In fact, many crowd members could be heard saying that he has a voice of an angel, and I agree. Ryan Cabrera is remarkably charismatic and was often found interacting with the crowd. Not forgetting those who were watching from home, Cabrera thanked his fans from all around the world for either staying up late or waking up early just to catch his birthday performance.

Before playing famous song ‘True’, Cabrera mentioned how his mother was among the crowd tonight. Sounding passionate and flawless throughout this number, Cabrera left the crowd feeling moved. Other popular songs of the night that had the crowd going crazy were ‘Exit to Exit’, 'Say' ‘Shame On Me’, ‘Photo’, and ‘Shine On’. Of course a Ryan Cabrera concert cannot come to an end without mentioning the encore and forever thrilling song, ‘On The Way Down’. This spunky song contains a contagious and catchy beat that is hard not to love. Ryan Cabrera along with his entire band possess obvious musical talent that they certainly let shine throughout their performance.

Overall, this concert most definitely deserves a rave review. Solomon, Tim Myers, Hunter Parrish, and Ryan Cabrera are all very different bands, but when you put them into the same lineup these boys sure know how to put on one hell of a good show. Full of incredible energy, talented musicians, and a crowd full of dedicated fans, this birthday celebration turned out to be nothing short of amazing.
