Dan Le Sac returns sans the lyrical wizardry of Scroobius Pip, but Space Between the Words is a gem, concise but twisted, this album will stay with you long after the final track.

Dan Le Sac has been relatively quiet since 2009's The Logic of Chance and the occasional unsolicited remix, while writing partner Scroobius Pip has seemed to find the limelight far more of late. Le Sac has finally replied with Space Between the Words, and it demonstrates the musical confidence that brought so much life to his previous efforts, grappling with almost every aspect of electronic music and making it his own.

The albums opener 'Long Night of Life' starts the album smoothly, utilizing the steady but insistent beat of a minimal techno track but infecting it with a distinct Le Sac sound. The same could be said for the entire album, a leisurely stroll through many of the finest things about electronic music today. 'Good Time Gang War' walks the line between dubstep and straight up house, never giving either genre too much leeway over the song.

The production value of the album is also top draw, the smooth ricochet of snares snaking around tightly worked instrumentals, such as in the light electro-jazz of 'Hold Yourself Lightly'. Space Between the Words has clearly been agonised over in the studio, with every note considered for the maximum impact.

What really marks out this album from others is Le Sac's choice of collaborators, working alongside an eclectic mix of some of the worlds finest artists. Le Sac's love for hip-hop hasn't been totally extinguished, evidenced in 'Good Time Gang War' and 'Caretaker' both featuring B Dolan. Dolan is a seemingly obvious choice for collaboration, a respected rapper, spoken word artist and activist, his snaking rhymes wind around Le Sac's club friendly beats in an awe-inspiring spectacle of musical gratification.

Although the album spans a musical spectrum too wide to conceive, it stays grounded in modern electro-pop thanks to Dan's ear for a catchy beat. Above all, Space Between the Words is a salute to what can be done, where music can go when someone dares to venture beyond the staple sounds. 'Break of Dawn' is the perfect track to sum up the album, steady and solemn but with enough pace and swagger to get feet moving on a dancefloor.

Space Between the Words is more than simply a strong debut, it's a delight, combining genres and influences to create a patchwork of sounds that don't just signify where Dan Le Sac comes from musically, but also where we're all headed, if we just let Dan take the wheel.

Space Between the Words is out now on Sunday Best Records
