Braces Tower Recordings // " Both pieces together really does offer you a mini festival purely for your ears"

The Voodoo Trombone Quartet is probably one of the best names for a band I’ve heard in a while. Whilst listening to their latest single ‘Hello! Who Are You?’ I was instantly transported into a hazy small festival with swooning summer rays lazily casting shadows across a bursting green field where people were doing some bopping and spilling their drinks like they just didn’t give a fudge. Weird what music can do to you when you let your mind wander with it, willingly letting it take your hand and trusting it completely.

I was a bit nervous to begin with, as the London band started the tune with some funky laser synths, so I started to wonder “where are all the horns?!” Less than a minute later I was greeted with some funky Tijuana horns I’ll have you know, which was caked in bouncy jazz bass and contented melodies. It’s a bit of ska smooshed with pop, and some broken down Casio beats thrown in the mix.

The B-Side ‘Easy to Learn’ is a steady rhythm, busy easy listening piece, with sprinkling of fairy tinkles and random synths whirling around in the background. Both pieces together really does offer you a mini festival purely for your ears, with so much going on yet working harmoniously together in a compelling fusion of summer beats.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, a bit chilled out and a bit fun, then take a listen why don’t you… however, I wouldn’t listen to it if you’re in the gym or need something to get you motivated for a super taurine and caffeine fuelled day, it’ll have the opposite effect and you’ll start day dreaming on the very spot!
