One of the many disappointments in the music industry is the genre known as "House." It may be the lack of knowledge and the understanding of what goes into a jolly good "House" groove. But what differentiates each "House" tune from the next? As mentioned, it may be a completely miss-understood genre, however, it seems to be fucking boring.
The days of the all-night parties are far behind for my boring-ass-self, so the idea of a "House Banger" annihilating my ear drums for a whole night is beyond the state of comprehension. You can picture 'Keep On Groovin' thumping away at the walls of your local Oceana, slowly but surely audio-raping teens into a state of hysteria while the party pooper's (myself happily included) stare in amazement at the Laptop dwelling digital DJ (no room for Vinyl anymore kids) with no expression or feeling.
So is there dynamics? Nope. Is there excitement? No. A huge drop? No. Just an 128bpm Garageband Drum Loop giving the speakers a full MOT. Oh and the odd lyric of... yeah you guessed it "Keep On Groovin."
Beatport 2012 Artist to Watch and BMA Finalist he may well be, but PHNTM displays nothing fresh, nothing worth actually listening too. It's alright though, as the bpm loop is well easy to mix for your local nightclub DJ and his auto-mix laptop. So he'll be happy right?
