Hatcham Social have a history of making some elegant indie pop. Retro tones and dizzying guitar chants come as part of the furniture; so it comes as no surprise that their latest single ‘Lois Lane’ continues in this linage.

As the second single from the Londoners latest product, About Girls; strong themes of romance only seems obvious. The album delves into the female personalities that have come into contact, loved and lost with the three piece from London. Named after Hatcham Liberal Club everything that comes with Hatcham Social has a quintessential British theme and ‘Lois Lane’ is no different.

Lois Lane’ is nothing wildly experimental; but the addition of some punk-rock elements along with a post-rock frenzy of guitars go to create an explosive compound. Although the vocals are by no means a prominent feature, they blend almost effortlessly and loose themselves some way within the tapestry of beats and kaleidoscopic waves. But what is refreshing is the fact that ‘Lois Lane’ feels almost like a long lost friend; it’s nothing new, nothing bold but you instantly feel at ease in its sultry glow presence. Much like most of Hatcham Social’s produce.

Simply sung and full of a frenzy of post-rock guitars ‘Lois Lane’ seems bright, colorful and wholly infectious. It goes someway to build Hatcham Social as a formidable force. Lets just hope the future Hatcham Social isn’t a one-trick-pony.
