"Mon The Biff! Mon The Biff! Mon The Biff! Mon The Biff!" Chant the excited and eager crowd as the lights go down and they wait in anticipation for the sight of Biffy Clyro. Was I chanting too? Fuck yeh!
Early 2013 will see the release of Biffy Clyro's new album Opposites, and I for one can't wait. But last night in Camden's Roundhouse a handful of lucky fans were treated to a taster of their new material and what they have in store for the full tour in support of their 6th release! Let me tell you this. Biffy Clyro didn't disappoint. Biffy Clyro are back; tighter, sweatier and hotter than ever!
The crowd went mental as a half naked Biffy Clyro storm onto the stage and straight into the 1st single taken from the new album 'Stingin' Belle' and we were all loving it. When I first heard 'Stingin' Belle' I was unsure. Yeah the riff was as catchy as you'd expect from the lads but the lyrics didn't feel up to scratch. Live however, they absolutely own it and you can tell they're itching to tour the new stuff!
Simon Neil, Ben and James Johnston were joined on stage all night by long-time friend and now 2nd guitarist Mike Vennart who was absolutely rocking it. Although not a fully fledged member of the band it'd unfair not to give him some props, as he totally held his own out there. As did pianist Gabriel (sorry, didn't catch his last name) who joined the band intermittently throughout the night. I did have to laugh though, as the two honorary band members were dressed fully all in white; it would appear only the full time members of the band are allowed to get topless...not that I'm complaining, Simon is sexier than ever...yes...I got my perv on....and what?! I'll stop with the swooning now though, don't want to put you's off your tea like!
We were treated to a mix of old and new from the lads but, as ever with the iTunes Festival, you can always tell the real fans from the 'oh yeh, I think I know some of their stuff' freeloaders. Old tracks like 'Strung to Your Ribcage' and 'Liberate the Illiterate' were met with a certain lull and lack of attention from many in the crowd, they simply had no clue and this is such a shame as their old stuff is certainly not to be overlooked and '27' was a prime example!
It was with the commercial classics like 'The Captain', 'A Whole Child Ago' and 'Who's Got A Match' that the crowd really got into it though, and this got Biffy Clyro going even more. Biffy Clyro sounded and played tighter than I've ever known them to. I think this is partly to do with the break they had after the Only Revolutions tour. Rumour has it they were tearing 7 shades of shit out of each other towards the end of that and we almost saw the end of Biffy Clyro. Thank fuck they pulled themselves together ay?! Whilst recording Opposites in America a now sober Ben (drums) was taking lessons from a rather reputable tutor and this is more than evident in his playing; tighter and more controlled, he really is driving the tracks and pushing through...as a trio Biffy Clyro are now simply as one and an absolute joy to watch!
Simon played a most awesome solo during 'God & Satan'. No actually, he fucking nailed it, hung one of his beloved Da Vinci's from it and stood back to look in adoration, a truly epic front man...although he does love to turn his back to the crowd - so much so that he has a second mic behind him! I don't mind though, he has a super sexy back (sorry, last swoon, I promise!)
Everyone's favourite track, and proper sing-a-long anthem 'Bubbles' got the most incredible reception ever and we were treated to some, slightly cheesy, smoke bubbles! With plenty of lasers, smoke and pyro throughout the show, you can't help but wonder and look forward to what Biffy Clyro will delight us with on the full tour, they're gonna bring the house down!
The new material Biffy Clyro sampled on us definitely has potential and I wait with baited breath for the new album. How many days till its released? Too many!
Biffy Clyro closed the show with 'That Golden Rule' and it felt like the place was gonna cave in on itself as everyone was going that wild!
ENCORE! of course there was an encore, it wouldn't be rock n roll without one! 'Hope For An Angel', 'Living is A Problem' and of course 'Mountains'. What a way to end the show, now I think the Roundhouse really is gonna cave in...if not the venue, then my bloody ear canals will. Totally fucking worth the 24 hours of ringing afterwards though!
Simon, Ben, James; it was an absolute booooom, blast and ruin. I thank you very much, but one thing - were was 'Saturday Superhouse'? Oh well. I wait patiently for the new album Opposites and the tour. Hurry up though!

"Mon The Biff!"Who can believe it's been a whopping 10 years since the release of Biffy Clyro's 1st album Blackened Sky?! Now, I'm guessing like many of you, I was first introduced to Biffy Clyro in 2007 when they released their 4th studio album Puzzle, I was instantly hooked by their catchy riffs, hook laden adrenaline pumping anthems as they breathed some much needed fresh air into the industry. Many of you still probably hadn't discovered them until the release of Only Revolutions, their biggest commercial success to date that fully put them on the map and finally their hard work and arduous touring paid off for the lads from Scotland.
