Ryan Rockwell, vocalist of the world’s most fun pop-punk band, Mixtapes, is back with two friends and a rap, erm, mixtape. It’s not hitting the world web until mid-October though and little information about the trio is available as yet, but what we can confirm is that ‘Sandbox’ is fucking rad.

I’m calling it haze or dream-rap, as of now, because of that beautiful otherworldly back beat that sounds like clouds cushioning falls in game land. Plus it has angelic Casio keyboard style church ‘Aaws’ throughout which make your heart go a little weak in the capillaries.

Like all the best rap it’s confident, referential, and sounds clever as…It even has a sweet breakdown whereby Rockwell gets in a pun about Indie music fans and the whip cracking archaeologist of the same name.

The lyrics mention Lost, Bombay Bicycle Club, Tony Danza, and the popular poker phrase, “Winner, winner, chicken dinner,” so really there’s not much more you could ask for in terms of pop culture. The three rappers couldn’t be further from the four elements instead they offer something a little edgier and unheard. This is music that treads new ground and at only a little over a minute it’s a scintillating taster of what Castles have ready to fire from their turrets.

'Sandbox' is available to stream now.
