Remember when Craig David was good? Back when he was scoring UK number ones with the likes of 'Fill Me In' and '7 Days'? What seems an age before now, when his single releases struggle to even reach the Top 40. Well, that is very much who John Earl reminds you of, as you listen to his latest single, 'Put Your Arms Around Me.'

Hi voice is soulful, mellow, smooth and ever-so easy on the ear. John Earl is a charmer; the kind of guy who can sing a few notes to a woman in a bar and have her instantly drooling at his feet. What he has found in Minori is someone who complements his voice perfectly. Her gentle, female vocals are a perfect match for Earl’s chilled-out tones.

'Put Your Arms Around Me' is a man’s plea for his woman not to leave him; the message being that if she put her arms around him once more she would be reminded of their love and how much she would be giving away. In terms of originality it is one of those songs that has been written more times than Nick Clegg has apologised throughout his political career. In fact, Craig David himself has probably covered the subject before!

However, this single isn’t about lyrical value. Without sounding like Mr Cowell, it’s all about ‘the voice;’ the voice of John Earl; a smooth, polished, gentle voice that can really help you relax and de-stress after a busy day. It’s about producing R&B the way that R&B should be made. How it was back when there wasn't more musical sub-genres than there were actual, legitimate parent genres. It’s a trip to the nineties with a touch of noughties flair in its glistening production.

John Earl is still very much a little fish when it comes to the UK music scene but from this release it is easy to see that he is swimming in a very big pond and not just treading water, but producing masterful stroke after stroke. If you listen to today’s Top 40 there are only a handful of songs that are better than this effort and with the right backing behind it, John Earl would fit right in to the UK chart.
