Coming from ex members of Blink 182, Rancid you would expect it to sound more like a little of both, but instead quite the opposite. From the opening sing along track 'Not today' to the unexpected calypso pop beats of Crash & Burn this is probably the most diverse Punk record I've heard in ages. The Experimentation of different styles meshed with the brashness of Punk make for a powerful and fun experience. You almost want to chuckle with excitement. The Piano driven 'I want it all' blends hip/hop scratch beats in the most unique and creative way. In my opinion 'Gangsters ans Drugs' ain't got nothin' on the deeper tracks.

There are a few weak spots pointing toward the Sen Dog, B. real, and Boo yaa Tribe tracks. I personally don't think rap/hiphop ever meshed very well with rock. It tends to cheese up the flavor causing the listeners to be dummed down by meaningless whoops and hollas. Especially on this record which is filled with politically charged lyrics. I can still appreciate "haunted Cities" even if there are a few soft spots. Might I suggest some stand out tracks? Check out 'American Guns'
'Apocalypse Now' and 'Madness'.

Out of 12 tracks, thre are 8 smashingly good listens worth coming back to more than once.
