Between the Buried And Me return with "Alaska", the followup to "The Silent Circus". I am usually not into extreme metal like this, unless the band really stands out.
BTBAM have that something that stands out to me. The first time I heard the song
"Mordecai" off of "The Silent Circus", I had to hear more. There is something really emotional about this band's brand of technically brutal music that really catches me. "Alaska" is no disappointment in the
BTBAM tradition of extremes. The heavy side of this band is even more punishing this time around, giving the listener a nonstop beating. The softer side of the band isn't found as much on this release, but when it is, it seems to be more polished (which is a good thing). All and all, there aren't really any "standout" tracks from this release, just a great metal album from start to finish. They really add a nice touch in the softer/jazzier moments as well. Think Dillinger Escape Plan meets The Red Chord but with a little something special. Check this album out!
