Manchester's Amplifier return with a new 6 track EP for their new label SPV, the band were one of the first victims of Music For Nations ill fated takeover by BMG which lead to most of the roster being ceremoniously dumped. The new ep is not that far removed from the debut self titled album with the bands trademark atmospheric and soulful guitar driven sound standing out even more than on the debut release.
The ep is more a way of a filler for the fans whilst they wait for the next album, presently scheduled for summer 2006, and whilst that may be the case there is no sense of 'filler' in the writing of the emotive tracks on offer, none of the tracks are scheduled to appear on the next album. This is a well put together release that enhances the growing reputation of the trio and highlights just how well they are progressing as a powerful writing force.
Standout track for me has to be the brilliant 'Everyday Combat' as it is just something slightly different than they have done previously. No existing fans will be disappointed with what is on offer here and it is a great introduction for anyone who wasn't familiar previously.Yet another impressive feature of the 6 track ep is that it comes in at nearly 40 minutes, more than many albums these days, and costs only the same price as a regular ep, well done guys.
