OK. Everyone that is on Altsounds.com listens to music avidly. So why not post a review of your newest CD, a gig you visited or even just a track you like on altsounds.com so that you can get your voice heard??
Unlike other websites, Altsounds.com is built for our users by our users and everyone on the site can help build more content by reviewing CD's, Live shows etc whenever they can.
This is a quick guide on how to physically post a Review on Altsounds.com:
1. Click
here to open up the newthread file for the Reviews section.
2. Enter the title of the album as follows:
Artist Name - Album Name
Nothing more, nothing less. Then enter [Live] [CD] [EP] [Single] or some other descriptor for the type of review you are posting.
3. Now go to any good cd store e.g. smartpunk.com amazon.com interpunk.com or whatever else and find a picture of the CD you are reviewing. Save the image to your hard drive and note it's location. Open up your image editing program and resize the picture to 100 pixels width.
Now where it says "Header Image", click the "Browse" button, select the image from your hard drive to upload the CD cover of the album you are reviewing.
4. The byline serves as the place to put details of the record company that released the CD. Enter the label name in the byline as soon as you find out what label the release is on.
5. Post the text of your review. You can also add images that text will wrap around either on the left or the right. If you do use images in your review please DO NOT post an image until at least three good paragraphs in to the review. This will prevent the image showing up on the CD review forumlist. There are three bbcodes that can be used to display images and these can be used as so:
HTML Code:
[img]imgsrc[/img]
OR
[imgleft]imgsrc[/imgleft]
OR
[imgright]imgsrc[/imgright]
The first img tag DOES NOT wrap text at all and is used for big images.
The imgleft and imgright post the images either to the left or the right and the text wraps around it as appropriate.
You may be wondering what the
imgsrc is? Well it is the source directly to the JPG, GIF or PNG file that you want to use in your review. You can either use images from remote servers or more preferrably you should add the images as an attachment then post them inline.
Using Images from Remote Servers
Go to Google image search (
Google Image Search) and type in keywords that you are looking for.
Click the thumbnail of an image you like.
Click "See Full Size Image"
And when it opens up the full size image it will have the imgsrc in your address bar. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) that url between whichever img tag you chose above and you will be done.
Using attachment images Inline
Below the post icons you will see a button that says "Manage Attachments". Click this and make sure you are allowing popups on altsounds.com.
Find the files off your computers hard drive and select up to 5 images. Then click upload.
You will notice that after the images have successfully loaded that the filenames show in the popup (they also show in the manage attachments if you accidentally close the popup). If you right click and "Copy Link Location" that link is then the
imgsrc to put between one of the img tags above.
Repeat this process until you have as many images as you need for your review.
6. Select the appropriate post icon from the list. The icon to be used for CD Reviews is:
