God Forbid - IV: Constitution Of Treason [album]

God Forbid - IV: Constitution Of Treason [album]

Century Media

New Jersey's God Forbid have been pounding the proverbial heavy metal pavement for a long time now, and its all about to pay off with their new release, "Constitution Of Treason". Their last album, "Gone Forever" was a formidable disc with tons of promise and lots of bite. What impressed me even more was their live show. Tight as a drum and just about as brutal as one can get. I became an even bigger fan after witnessing a GF live show.

"Constitution Of Treason" opens this band wide up and give me so much more to like. I was really hoping they would hit it out of the park with this one, and I believe they did. As the title suggests, the album has a definite political vibe and the songlist is even set up like the Constitution is.....articles, sections, the whole bit. God Forbid have done an excellent job of creating whats basically a soundtrack to a nation that has been left in the cold....hung out to dry, and forced to rebuild the crumbled palaces around it. A sharp, puncturing commentary on the current political and social woes our country is dealing with. All you have to do is hit play and you'll immediately envision tears streaming down the cheeks of children, debris, and shrapnel flying around randomly, and monuments falling to the ground.

Musically, this cd doesn't disapoint.......they haven't strayed from their signature sound, but have managed to build upon and add to it, creating a stronger, heftier sound. No frills, no effects, no machines, just natural, pummeling metal played from the heart. Doc and Dallas Coyle are definitely giving me good reason to start mentioning them in the same breaths with Chris and Michael Amott of Arch Enemy and Jonathan Donais, and Matt Bachand of Shadows Fall when it comes to discussing current, trailblazing guitar teams. Also, the groove of this album alone will whip up the most frenzied of mosh pits....watch out....bloody noses and broken bones abound.

This might be saying a lot, but I believe God Forbid have created their equivalent to "Vulgar Display Of Power" or "Rust In Peace". If they keep up this momentum and quality of metal....watch out....they just won't be stopped.
