Death Cab For Cutie - Plans

DCFC's first major label record does not suck. In fact, it rocks, well as hard as Death Cab can rock...its not bad, and I am going to take a shot and say this is "a concept album"...if it is then cool, if not then still cool. You cant be all hipster melancholy cool if ya don't get this...seriously, Gibbard and crew deliver the goods, and there are people who get paid a lot more to write about these guys, if ya like them, you know what to expect, but this time...MORE PIANOS AND SUCH...other than that, I like it, its a good make out record...hehehehehe 8.75/10

My sister is like a hardcore DCFC fan...she's been playing that record non-stop for a while now... I finally took the time to listen to it...

fuckin incredible. Their best by far, in my opinion.

I am somewhat put off by this review of Plans. It does the album no justice. It reminded me of the time my sweetheart rolled over in bed and asked me how it was...my reply was "well, it was kind of like a bad Zinfandel. Started strong, but left a nasty aftertaste." That wasn't nice!!!!! Je regret.

Plans is a beautifully constructed piece of music. Some have said it is their finest work, but I actually liked Transatlanticism better. This was an outstanding first major label release though. It seems that DCFC has learned a thing or two about production and likes a little of what BG picked up in the Postal Service. It was more mature.

The lyrics were stronger that they were in Transatlanticism. There seemed to be a couple of recurring themes. Love and death, bad relationships, self loathing, regret and resignation. This makes me wonder exactly how many of them turned 30 in the last year.

However listening to the album you are left with the distinct impression that yes, those wrinkles and bags on your face are yours, those mistakes were yours, but you are all the more beautiful for having them.

9.625/10

feel free to post your own reviews on Altsounds! opinions are always welcome.

i agree with you... for someone who is a huge fan of the band, the original review barely scratches the surface...

the more i hear of this album, the more i love it. i am turning 25 this year, and while some people might not think thats very old, tell it to my gray hair. i find myself relating with a lot of this record and making the 'quarter of a century' mark not that scary.

I agree to (sorry GODFRAMEDME)), I would kinda expect more depth in an album review. Especially one that a lot of people would be interested in reading.
