Understanding is key. Only true understanding allows a musician to manipulate their instrument with significant prowess. That understanding fuses the two together, making it difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins. Only true understanding allows 5 individuals to bring forth all of their experiences, influences and passions to create something cohesive and ultimately unique, delivering an unshakable message. Only true understanding between audience and artist allow the two to look each other in the face and collectively take the jump into the unknown, falling unapologetically into a sea of heartstopping rhythms and heartbreaking melodies. The understanding comes full circle to connect in a most electric meeting of musical power on ‘The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume,’ major label debut from Evans Blue.

Comparable to 10 Years or Chevelle, Evans Blue have mastered the delicate balance of intense and sometimes metal-leaning rock with gut wrenching and generally beautiful vocals. Musically, they are a very intricate band, with guitar parts and song structure often reminiscent of hardcore band Alexisonfire. Their overall sound is somewhere between Tool and The Mars Volta, combining the haunting and frantic in a captivating whirlwind skillfully reigned into an average song length of three and a half minutes. “The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume” is probably the most appropriate album title imaginable, as it points out two things Evans Blue understands in ways most of us never will.

01. A Cross + A Girl Named Blessed
02. Stop + Say You Love Me
03. Cold (But I'm Still Here)
04. Eclipsed
05. Beg
06. Over
07. Possession
08. Dark That Follows
09. The Promise + The Threat
10. Quote
11. The Tease

honestly, the more i listen to this album, the more my opinion on it changes. i have been considering re-writing this review because of it.

i still really like it, don't get me wrong...it's a good album and i hope its where modern rock is heading... but i burned out on it relatively quickly. i am currently on hiatus from the cd...i'll return to it in a few months, i think.
