Ligeia – Your Ghost Is A Gift

Do you like Killswitch Engage, or As I Lay Dying, or any other bands like that? Well, then here is your favorite new band. It, however is not mine. Do not get me wrong, there is some really good song writing going on, but it just seems like I have heard it all before. First up the clean vocals are well done, but the over the top nature and forced crooning is too apparent and seem to be out of place (like in “Heart Attack”, or “The Black Out”) to keep the song flowing. While this is a first release, and I understand that, I had higher hopes for this. The first track “Beyond A Doubt” does grab by the throat and takes you on a good ride at a fast pace, and then a perfect breakdown at the end has you bringing the sick mosh bro. (I don’t want to come off as me hating this band at all, I enjoy them, but the record does show how young they are as a band.) Shortly there after it becomes an exercise in the “what to do next” paint by numbers nu-metal core. While the release is a good first album, it just seems like we have been here before, and the over the top parts really ruin an above average album. I do think that Ligeia is a talented band, and have the ability to write, it just came out hurried and too paint by numbers for my taste. One other thing I must give credit too, is that vocalist Keith Holuk handles the vocal duties from screaming to clean singing very very well. Not bad, but could be better. 7.85/10
