Rise Against- The Sufferer & The Witness

Chicago's own Rise Against help to bring politics back to punk rock as the band releases their fourth full length album, “The Sufferer & The Witness” via Geffen Records Records July 4, 2006.

For die-hard Rise Against fans- many were disappointed with the bands major label debut "Siren Song of the Counter-Culture" in 2004. "The Sufferer & The Witness" is a harmonious blend of older work stylistically from the days of "Revolutions Per Minute" (2003 Fat Wreck Chords) along with some new surprises that will impress and please both longtime and new Rise Against fans alike.

"Chamber The Cartridge" opens the CD and with an immediate onslaught of power, angst, and awesomeness. Following, "Injection" continues down the same path while "Ready To Fall" the first single of the release, hooks the listener through catchy guitar and vocally driven harmonics- the kind that pulsates and continue to play over in ones head long after the song has finished. The highlight of the album "Bricks" is a sure to be Rise Against classic that holds nothing back. Rise Against up the ante with "The Approaching Curve"- a capturing arrangement of story-spoken verses by band front man Tim McIlrath with an even stronger chorus of melody and angst, all tied into one.

Overall, with "The Sufferer & The Witness" proves that Rise Against has matured both musically and lyrically- without changing too much or creating a disappointing surprise for longtime fans of the band. This CD is a stellar release from one of the best politically and socially charged bands of the day. “The Sufferer & The Witness” is definitely worth a listen.
