Alexisonfire - Crisis

Alexisonfire - Crisis
Alexisonfire are one of my favourite bands of the last few years. Watch Out was probably one of my favourite albums of 2005 and was defiinitely in my Top 3. They struck a chord with me becaue of their originality, instrumentation and dual voices (screaming and singing) that compliment themselves more than any other band (in my opinion). The screamer is awesome and Dallas has an amazing voice.

"Drunks, Lovers, Sinnes and Saints" is a catchy little number that doesn't mess around. Before I know it Alexisonfire are goin at it full force and I am loving this album already. "This Could Be Anywhere In The World" is probably my favourite song on this album it really shows off Dallas' voice and reminds me of the Alexisonfire that I fell in love with. I can't help but sing along to this song "This City. This City is Haunted, My Ghosts from broken hearts". The stop starty intro to this song is killer too.

"Mailbox Arson" smashes in with screaming and thrashing guitars and then when the chorus comes in again Dallas does not dissapoint me. There is more singing than ever on this album and many may hate it and hanker back to their first album and how it was almost (if not) all screaming. **** that! When you have somebody with as good a voice as Dallas Green you need to show it off. That would be like having the worlds best guitarist yet only allowing him to play chords. Such a waste of talent. The singing and screaming are in all the right places and I continue to excited as I listen to this album even though I know whats next (because this about the millionth time of me listening to this since I got it).

"Boiled Frogs" is also one of my favourite songs on the album too. It's Alexisonfire at it's best and it showcases a third vocal. Not sure which member of the band this is but **** me. Three voices? Talented bunch of guys and such a genius idea. As far as I am aware no one in this genre has done three vocalists. Everyone has two. But three makes it super interesting and "Boiled Frogs" really demonstrates how much of a good decision this has been for Alexisonfire. This song fades out almost like they couldn't stop playing it!! After just posting the video to "This Could Be Anywhere In The World" on altsounds I realize the three vox are on that song too and it appears to be the second guitarist.

"We Are The Sound" again smashes in and is very upbeat almost punky number with fast screaming vocals and subtle gang vox. Again Dallas is very prominent and as usual his melodies hit me hard. "We Are The Sound, We Don't Belong, So Raise Up Your Hands and Sing Along" is sung as again I can't help but sing along as Dallas is asking me too. The gang vocals at the end are awesome and the drummer really stands out with his crazy stop starty drumming and cymbal work.

"You Burn First" sounds nothing like Alexisonfire. It's a pretty cool break from the rampant 5 song Alexisonfire session that I just went through and the timing of this change up was so perfect. No I am not sure whether this is the third vocalist doing the main vocals. The reason I am unsure is it sounds like it's a fourth vocalist to me and if so I will be blown away. I can't tell because this is a simple black and white promo copy of the album so all I have are track names and absolutely no details at all . If someone out there knows please let me know in this thread.

"We Are The End" changes the forumla of the est of the albu (that formula being screaming in the verse and singing in the chorus). The song starts with Dallas singing and screaming follows and then the chorus contains both screaming and singing which is a nice little thing to do as long as it's not over done.

The next trak on this great album is "Crisis". The title track. I've been looking forward to his as I find it intriging when bands name an album after a song. That means that the band really love the song or the meaning is closest to their hearts. After the chorus the band stops for such a long time that I think for a second that the track has stopped and then boom. Back in. Gotta love that shit. This song is good and the screaming is very reminiscent of some of the earlier Alexisonfire material HOWEVER not really sure why theynamed their album after this track?

"Keep it on Wax" features the screamer and third vocalist. Considering I have never heard this guy singing before he makes quite a few appearances on this album. He even gets the chorus on this one with Dallas harmonizing. Listening to this makes me want to pull out "Watch Out"to see if he appeared on it at all.

"To a Friend" shows off some of Dallas' best melodies on this album and I am starting to get gutted that this is almost over.

"Rough Hands" is the mellowest song on the album and as soon as it ends. I go to my media player and click play again!! This album is so addicting and I can't help but to listen to it. For a few weeks I played it every single day saying to my coleague how great an album it is. I left it for a hile and have now come back and think I will make this a firm fixture in my avourite albums to listen to. We were supposed to be getting the full album stream for this from Hassle Records (AOF's UK Label) but the CD they sent was protected in that i has been split into 99 track of 45 seconds a piece.

Not sure if I can be arsed to paste it all together in Soundforge and apparently they can't send us another copy . Maybe Vagrant (AOF's US label) will oblige?

Either way go buy this album right now it will be $$ well spent.
