For an unsigned band, Locksley has had respectable success early in their career. The band is in heavy rotation on MTV-U and has been a regular at CBGB’s in New York, not too shabby for four boys from Wisconsin without a record deal. Their latest studio album Don’t Make Me Wait is full of infectious songs reminiscent of “I Want to Hold Your Hand” era Beatles.

After my first listen through Don’t Make Me Wait, I was left wanting something more. While Locksley is clearly talented and highly adept at song writing, the redundancy of their songs made me question their versatility. Most of the tracks on this album address the “boy likes girl and wants to tell her through a snappy pop song” scenario. While this subject matter was great for playing the Ed Sullivan Show in 1963, it felt a little hollow on first listen. But then something amazing happened; I found myself humming the melody to “Let Me Know” while driving to work and absent mindedly mouthing the words to “Why Not Me” while I was at lunch. I gave the album another chance, and I was hooked by these standout tracks along with “All Over Again” and the CD’s title song.

This is simply one of the most infectious albums I’ve heard this year. With toe tapping guitar riffs and upbeat vocals, Locksley has the formula for crafting great pop songs that stay in your head for days. Although I hope they use their sizable talents for more diverse subjects on their next album, Locksley has produced a solid record with Don’t Make Me Wait. The new British Invasion has begun, but this time the invaders will come from Madison,Wisconsin and be wearing cheese hats instead of red coats.
