In an airport full of crowded people, my earphones blared the sweetest tunes that overtook the rest of the commotion. Boys Like Girls bares life-like lyrics and mixes it with a emo, alternative twist. It will make your heart skip a beat, yet keep your foot tapping. I recently saw these guys in concert and hate bands that sound nothing like their CD. This was a completely different story. Boys Like Girls let me wear my heart on my sleeve, and yet still somehow feel like jumping up and down. Their self-titled CD gives an over-powering sense of joy and makes you think at the same time. I found myself replaying the songs "Hero/Heroin" and "The Great Escape" over and over again. Catchy beats on the drums mixing with guitar make the sound almost unbearable to remove from your head. Paul, John, Martin, and Bryan arn't your typical rock band boys. At their concerts, it's like they connect with the crowd. Jumping up and down, getting close, and making eye contact. Setting the stage for the next band, but knowing they won't be able to compare. It was well worth my 15 bucks for the show and 20 for the CD. Boston based, they set the tempo for future rock and alternative bands. Headlining for Valencia, Spitalfield, Over It, and Punchline in early November, the bands sure to keep up with the fans and pleased with where they are. In an interview with forthesound.com, they clearly state they'd rather be out touring then recording. John exclaimed, "But definitely touring is better because you get to talk to the kids and hang out." I read that and thought, "yeah, another act like every band puts on." Once we got to the show, after they played, they were right down there with us like normal human beings talking and watching the show. I really like the work they put into their album and the appreciation they have for their fans. Run to Best Buy, get onto Amazon.com, go to Wal-Mart. Do something! Go pick up a copy, it's my favorite album of the year and I'm sure you'll love it too!
