THREE DAYS GRACE – LIVE @ THE KOOLHAUS

Opening bands; Idle Sons, Mobile and Theory of a Deadman,

It was a pretty crappy day outside it was raining and I had no desire to go anywhere, for Toronto the temperature was pretty good not too cold still above zero and no snow! (I really do not get along with snow!) As the winter nears I hate going to shows when there is snow on the ground because missioning in the slushy dirty snow of downtown Toronto really bites especially because traffic is so New York. I was so happy that it was not raining or snowing on my way to the show. My feet were already killing me because I decided to wear my new running shoes instead of the old warn in runners. So typically me, although I know better I still do things that I know I will regret later and yes, yes I did regret wearing my new shoes here’s a lesson I have learnt too many times. Fellas you should take note because men’s shoes have to be worked in as well. Unless of course you are one of those that purposely buys shoes one to two sizes bigger than your size just to make it look like you have big feet.

-DO NOT WEAR NEW SHOES or HEELS etc. TO A SHOW –

Rock shows are not that extremely different from Pop shows, some have that commonality of a GA show amongst them. The only thing that separates them is the Moshers (Rock Only) and choreographed dancing, but now a days there are more and more Rock-abee’s getting record deals. The Killers are not Rock people! You would never see Kurt Cobain leaning back adding some pop locking or a moonwalk twirl in his set. Here are a few examples of real rock for those who are lost and will now be found; Queen, Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Motley Crew, AC/DC, U2, GNR(Old School Only) Metallica (Old School only), Our Lady Peace (Old School Only), Pearl Jam, Korn (Old School only). The newer rock bands that truly Rock out and deserve to be called rock bands are Three Days Grace, Billy Talent, Linkin Park, Slute, Broken Social and Alexis On Fire just to name a few. All of the fans are the same, mainstream, Indie, whatever each have four main types of fans, if you want to know those I will tell you but only upon request.

Alright, here we go the venue was the Kool Haus, November 8th was the first of two sold out shows the other show was November 10th. I attended the show on the 8th and I missed the first two openers. Although, I was hoping to catch Mobile I liked their break out track and I wanted to check out how Idle Sons were live but you do not always get everything you want. I arrived in the midst of Theory of a Deadman’s set, I was with my friend and my youngest sister who is not a rock fan she swings more on the R&B, Hip Hop side of the umbrella. Even though she is open minded with music, popping her rock cherry was a long time coming.

By the time 3DG got onstage I was dying, it was so hot, so many people and my feet were superbly crippled. Some people do not have any disregard for those around them, in fact this one chick elbowed, pushed in front of me and started jumping up and down like a crazy beast almost squishing my toes in the process. I was very pissed off all I wanted was to enjoy a show and work at the same time. So, for payback I gave her a nice little slap upside the back of her head, her boyfriend who was equally as psycho saw me then came up and went all crazy with her smashing into everyone around them. I moved to the far right (Stage left) because I knew if I was to stay behind them there would have been a definite brawl and I would be waiting for her to throw the first punch, I would then have no choice but to unleash the dragon within, I would finish what she started. Some people need a lesson on not ****ing with people you don’t know. If that was to happen all this unnecessary drama would unfold, the pigs would get involved and I do not need to get booked thanks. I do not like drama I am not a dramatic person, why are people such drama queens?

Now we move on from that near mishap to the stars of this review. The boys came on stage kicking off the set with “Animal I Have Become” that’s when crazy bitch and her boyfriend started going all psycho, I’m not the only one that moved away from them. The sound is pretty great at the Kool Haus Adam’s vocals were in good shape but from an interview I caught the next day his voice was shot from the show the night before, That guy he gave the crowd everything he had in him. The next track was “Time Of Dying” which is good tune the guitars and the drums I love it, a little bit of feedback during the set not their fault. All in all they put on a good show both guitars were flying around Adam was singing his ass off. Gontier did a solo to Chris Isaac’s “Wicked Game” after they did “Wake Up” Gontier busted out the acoustic and started strumming the first few chords and it took off, a very good rendition I think I like his version better to tell you the truth. That was not the only surprise tune of the night because right after “Never Too Late” my ultimate favorite tune on the new LP “ONE X” they played “Home” off the debut and it turned into a medley of Filter’s “Hey man Nice Shot”. After those two no more covers or medleys but they did end it off with their #1 hit single “I Hate Everything” that is when the madness escalated everyone went all crazy people flying around. As for the dudes of Three Days Grace, I like their presence very charismatic everyone in the band was trying to keep it live and rocking the drummer was flawless with rhythm, guitars were incredible and the vocals were killer. They rocked the shit out of the Kool Haus I highly recommend checking them out when and if possible.
