RELEASE THERAPY - LUDACRIS

LUDACRIS – Release Therapy
MCA / Disturbing Tha Peace / Island Def Jam

LUDA What What! I love Ludacris always different from the others. His videos are a bit extra, too much bootay for my liking but at least you can laugh. Luda is not always poppin’ bottles in every track he has more depth than some of his competitors. So mundane to constantly be jibbering about tappin some big bootay hoebag or in some cases hoebag’s, typical like most of today’s mainstream waves. Ludacris has come a long way since his debut album climbing all the way to the top and just chillaxin on top. All of his albums had monster hits, Luda’s 5th album Release Therapy recently reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts with sales of more than 300,000 in its first week it has also been certified Platinum, since the LP’s end of September release. Luda’s latest piece of work was titled Release Therapy because he just needed some jammin, weight lifting, no holds bar type of tunes saying it like it is. The whole point of music is that it is a release, like every legit musician out there music is my therapy. I do not like to share my feelings by talking to people to me that is weird unless I am really comfortable with the person. I would rather just write a song, I do not need to be paying “A Bill” per hour for some clueless shrink to be telling me things I already know. Through music you grow, you learn and you get peace of mind but only when it is good music, I can not stand posers, talentless morons and I can’t believe how naïve people are these days! (Anyone who spent their hard earned money on Paris Hilton or K-Fed’s master pieces of shit, must run out and check your ears immediatley, I am sure you are in dire need of a hearing aid.) The only way I would review their albums and albums a like is, if someone payed me $5 Million Per “Poo Poo Dat” LP. Luda is legendary he was the first Rapper to perform on SNL and act on the same night. He also has been in nine movies, nine! Damn I did not know he was in a collection of films I thought he only did like two. Good Job!

Now Let us go into what Ludacris has to say in his newest masterpiece. The first joint “Do Your Time” is about keeping your head up high while in the joint. This track hits home for me for reasons unknown to you “Roll Out”. “Do Your Time” opens with a collect call from an inmate, this track features Beanie Sigel, Pimp C and C-Murder. Nothing but truth from there filled with good advice with a groving melody and a kickin beat, simple does the song justice and does not distract you away from the lyrics or the talent on the tune. One of my instant favorites is ”War With God” a great track from the start “I claim to be nothing but who I am”, “Only Shots you ever took were subliminal to the general, disrespecting those doing real time with real criminals.” “Do like your record say or shut the f*** up.” that line is perfect and how he puts it it is humorous yet serious which is hard to pull off but he did it nicely. “Money Maker” is a club banger and of course tunes like this one pay the bills and this is a typical video ho bootay in your face tune but the way he rhymes words is insane, enough said. With a lot of artists I sometimes think I could have done a version of that song better than theirs or I would come up with different lyrics than them but very few artists actually write their own stuff not only poptarts but rappers and rockers too. One of the main reasons I like Ludacris because he tells it like it is, in his track “Tell It Like It Is” he does just that, exploiting the music business for what it is and callin out who he pleases. “What's worse than havin no money / is havin it and losin it (yup) What's worse than havin some money is grabbin and abusin it (yup) / We never took no money from Chingy, thought I was cool with him (nah) / I wish his ass well but I don't want NOTHIN to do with him (woo!). This track is a goldie the hook for the clean version “I know it's strange / But my brain's gone really insane / And I'm off the chain / Sipping on a fifth of the Golden Grain / I feel like slappin a somebody today (slap slap)” another line is “I need some money please (please) / I can barely make it on these streets (these streets) / Cause I got a couple mouths to feed / My baby's in dire need /So I'm thinking bout robbin a bank today (Robbin a bank today).” This track is full of “You Know” in all agreement with Ludacris just talking about them days when you feel like knocking someone out. The tracks that do not float my boat are “Girls Gone wild” pointless track just a bunch of Luda’s ramblings he comes off too cocky and is all over the place. Another is “Ultimate Satisfaction” I just do not like it, the tune does nothing for me. Release Therapy is a pleasurable listening experience with a few minor setbacks. He really needs to grow back the fro I miss it, not the same with out it. This album comes Highly Recommended!
