For 15 years they ruled the metal underground. Despair, darkness, guilt and regret housed their hearts. It is with great sadness that I now lay to rest… Sentenced.
Overtly dramatic? Maybe for some but not for a band that actually staged it’s own funeral. In late 2006 the members of Finland based metal band Sentenced announced that they had decided to go their separate ways. To honor their fans and their music they held a “wake” (warm up show) on September 30th at a club in their hometown of Oulu Finland followed by the Funeral (last ever show) on October 1st. On January 23rd Century Media records and Sentenced released the double live album titled “Buried Alive”. Of all the live albums I’ve ever heard this one is by far the best. As a special thank you to the fans Sentenced brought back original vocalist Taneli Jarva for 4 songs including fan favorite “Nepenthe”. Current vocalist Ville Laihiala does an absolutely fantastic job ripping through despair ridden classics such as “May Today Become The Day”, “Farewell” “The Suicider” and “Drown Together”. While pretty much every album is represented my favorite tracks come from the albums Frozen (“The Rain Comes Falling Down, The Suicider, Farewell and Drown Together) and Crimson (Broken, Dead Moon Rising)
In the Category of things not expected was the emotional ending as the final notes of the last song “ End Of The Road” rang out. With that the Northernmost Killers left this world the way they came in…Kicking Ass! Farewell my friend you will be missed!
