TITOFELIX – ALL GOOD THINGS
By: Fridae Mattas
I press play and soon we will find out if Titofelix is full of all these good things or if they should stick to their day jobs. This band was formed in Atlanta, Georgia but relocated for a bit by migrating farther south to Tampa Bay Florida. There they enlisted the help of uber Engineers Paul Lapinski and Daryl Phenneger once again to record their third studio release. As I listen to the first track “A Way To Everything” the band it self sounds good but the music is very modern pop punk, the vocals could be much better, their sound has already been done.
Following in the footsteps of pretty much every band out there, with their Simple Plan, New Found Glory feel not much of a departure from the sound of their previous Lp’s. This band really should stop referring to the newest disc as an Alternative Rock album because it is anything but! Blink 182 was not rock and neither are these guys, in their own world they can be whatever floats their boat but in reality, every track sounds the same thus far. I am now listening to “Me, You and Her Hammock” which is the seventh track on the LP very similar set up to the other tracks the only difference with this track is near the end of the tune it slows down a bit with a transition. It is not much of a transition because it is placed at the end, that is the ending of the tune, transitions are good mid way into the tune near the last bridge. There is absolutly no point to even put it at the end unless that is how they wanted to end the tune.
The Melodies are one in the same for almost every track with very slight variations from track to track but not enough to be able to consider them different tunes. Too much of a pop punk feel very commercial but lost within the ocean of bands who are replicas. The vocals are not bad but not amazing there is not much range in his vocals pretty simple and typical. It is like listening to Nickelback but Punk version, all their tunes sound the same because of Kroeger’s vocals they staple the tracks to continually sound solitary, it doesn’t matter how much they change the music it is the voice that makes the tracks sound the same and sometimes they use the same chords repeatedly. The strongest track on this album is “Something Strange” the lyrics are not exceptional but they pass on more of a message than the other tracks, even the musical direction and vocal arrangements for this track are different. This is the most diverse track on the album and I see it doing well commercially. A line from the track is “I think I’ll make you believe I’m better off on my own It’s only in your head now ‘Cause I don’t miss you at all, And you’re a fool if you fall, Forget the situation”. In order for this band to reach, where they want to go they need help with their lyrics. The lyrics are far too effortless and thesaurus like. Vocal lesson are a must his vocals are not very strong and it shows in every track maybe the music they play is not meant for his vocals. There is nothing special about the band or their songs, why would someone buy an album from an unknown pop punk band when they could pick up a “Blink 182” LP? Titofelix will not be selling to a platinum level anytime soon so keep your day jobs but continue with your dreams Fellas. The tunes I suggest are “Exquisiteness”, “Something Strange”, and “A Way To Everything”. This is where it ends, all good things are not found on this album, but some people may like them, to each their own!
