****shovel – Long Time Dead The single cover gives off an 80’s punk theme, similar to bands like Sex Pistols and The Clash. Expecting the songs to sound like them will give an idea that they were heavily influenced by those bands. But this isn’t so. The two songs ‘Long Time Dead’ and ‘Skulls And Bones’ dont sound like them at all. The band is heavier then originally expected; they class themselves as Metal, Punk and Rock. Metal is more within the musical range, guitars, maybe drop D tuning, the cliché guitar tuning for metal and the double pedalling on the drums throughout the songs make ****shovel more of a metal band. The vocals from Jack have the hint of punk but not true punk with how the single cover came across. Both songs are repetitive throughout and the vocals are dull. But they are a Metal/Punk so maybe that is what they were aiming for. ****shovel look like they are the typical metal band that play run of the mill metal music. If they are trying to get an audience and a big fan-base, it is very rare that it could happen as there are too many bands out there who are sounding the same. If they want to start out, a wow factor is needed to win music lovers over. Review by Claire |
