Starting off in the middle of the audience was more than original for these Nizlopi boys, without any microphones…or socks and shoes they definitely started off the show with a high.
As Luke sang, he looked straight into the crowds eyes’; really appreciating that everyone was there. It also drew everyone closer and literally too as Luke and John had everyone singing harmonies at one point. The second time they went back into the middle of the audience, they did their own version of ‘Stand By Me’ as one (slightly drunk) woman wanted them to sing it. As soon as they did, this made everyone want to join in. It showed that Nizlopi could easily capture the audience and draw them into any situation. But the reason why they went back into the crowd for the second time was to perform an up close and personal version of ‘Last Night in Dakar’ Again, as Luke sang he made sure he made eye contact with everyone in the room to make the experience that little bit more personal.
You could tell that both Luke and John were really getting into tonight’s show, the emotion, the stories between songs and getting the fans included as much as they could. John blew everyone away with this talented double bass and occasional acoustic guitar skills. His human beat-boxing skills were just as good and I couldn’t believe how brilliant they were, I wouldn’t have thought he was able to pull it off that well live. But he sure did prove that I was wrong. Luke with his almost pitch perfect harmonies, acoustic rhythms and his bodhran playing made everyone listen intently. During ‘Call It Up’, Luke made sure that the band connected with the audience by getting involved in a mass singalong. Getting the fans Included like this made the show a spectacular event.
The emotion that they both put into all of their songs was phenomenal, making my hairs stand on end and goose bumps travel round my body. I was so glad they didn’t play "that song", because this shows that they are worth more than that Christmas number one and that’s what they will show everyone out there with their new album ‘Make It Happen’.
