Two piece bands are few and far between and this is probably because it is very difficult to pull off an amazing live show without it sounding like something is missing i.e. bass. The Black Keys are an example of a two piece band that somehow get the formular to work and from the minute this single hits in you realize that nothing is missing from this equation!
The Ohian duo have emerged from the four albums recorded in their basements and fallen lovingly into the arms of Danger Mouse. The single 'I Got Mine' sounds like a track that just got teleported to 2008 from the late 60s - probably 1968 to be exact. Raucous, bluesy guitar riffs start the track off before Dan Auerbach's distinct voice kicks in to really drive this song along. It is plainly obvious here though that there is a bass guitar subtly placed in the back of the track. I don't know if this was done to try and hide the fact, however, I am now sitting here slightly disappointed because all of a sudden this duo's sound doesn't feel so impressive due to the fact that this song is not actually a duo playing. Unlike all their other studio albums they have obviously utilized a lot of studio trickery rather than the simple live feel of the other albums. The song even has some trippy, psychedleic backwards souding musical interlude which I think must be a Danger Moues influence because he is known for loving his obscure 60's psychedlic music even though he predominently a Hip-Hop / R&B producer. I also like the fact that the song ends almost the same as it begins which again is probably due to this album having some good pre-production.
This track is hard hitting and summed up is an example of timeless rock and roll. This band ooze enough rock to feed a crack addict's habit for a year and enough roll(s) to fill a bakery - hahahaha.
If this single is an indication of what to expect from this album then I would hazard a guess to say that it is going to be pretty damn awesome. Old, southern American influenced blues rock that is likely to satisfy the hardest to please rock fans.
