When you first put in the album "Worrisome Heart" by American songstress Melody Gardot, iTunes tries telling me that, no matter what you though about the young generation, this 23-years-young girl does Jazz based music. And boy! That is wholeheartedly true.

5 seconds into the title song of her debut album release, entitled "Worrisome Heart", and pictures of Nina Simone start to appear in your mind. Although Melody Gardot's voice is unusually thin for a Jazz singer, what she lack's in actual vocal depth is quite balanced by the wise use of her bands vibrant sound. This mixture leads into a very precise, and thick atmosphere which I'm sure fills a room when Melody Gardot is performing live. All of a sudden you might feel the need for soft lights and puffy sofas whilst wearing a sexy nightrobe with a crystal glass of wine in your hand!

Sometimes, the words themselves are hard to pick out. The vibrant, yet soft presence of Melody's voice - almost trembling at times - causes you as a listener to be unable to decipher some of the lines at varied points. Some of the songs are so deep that when it gets to the end, you have forgotten altogether how it began. But unlike most songs, the ones collected in "Worrisome Heart" don't have the expectations of have your full attention doing nothing but listening.
Miss Gardot has delivered infact a ten song album filled not just with good music, but with a whole new outlook to move and manage the space you reside within, regardless of what genres of music you are most into.

For 3 minutes and 23 seconds of "Sweet Memory" a hint of Country influence appears almost resemling the visual form of a drop of ink in a glass of water. This may bother you in the same way as finding a raid on Jessica Rabbit's stage, enacted by the "Good Ole Boys" might.

The sound of "Goodnite" is cleverly mastered. It makes you feel as if you were sitting in a 1920s club. The voice is reminiscent of the femal vocal sounds on hundreds of early and original vinyl records. This high end production work is just another little detail that has been cleverly put into this album and that will help make it continue its style in such a smooth way that it proves to be not by chance. And of course is not if you take into account that the co-producer of this album(along with Melody herself) is none other Grammy Award-Winning engineer and producer Glenn Barrat.

The closing song "Twilight" brings you back to reality with a mixture of smooth instruments which help form the embodiment of the jazz/soul which has bounced around this album, which has almost been melded together like a jam session. Melody's voice bids you farewell with the words: "That was fun." at the very end of the album.

And unexpectedly, but incredibly true, it certainly was.
