Urbnri are a band of four from Glasgow, Scotland who are quite big in Scotland by the looks of things but I doubt they are well known outside their home country. Reading their biography on their myspace page frightens me, prison sentences and drug abuse will become their forthcoming album ‘Young Team’. Not original there then. So what has Urbnri got that other bands don’t have? Erm…nothing basically.
As soon as the guitar kicks in for the introduction of their single ‘Back Me Up’ I knew instantly that this wouldn’t be any good. For one, the quality of the production is bad. Really bad. Then Tait’s vocals start and then the fall begins. The constant down stroke melody…not melody, noise from the guitar is so simple a 5 year old could pick up a guitar and play it without any hesitation or problems.
The remixes on the CD are better than the original single but not much better. They are average themselves but I think that’s the only thing saving this single. Without the vocals, I can imagine the remix tracks playing in clubs with the constant, repeating beats. These two tracks, Oliperphonic remix and Wonky remix are just the same as everyone else’s single remixes.
I don’t know what Urbnri are trying to accomplish with this single but I don’t think they will get further than outside their home town if they carry on with the standards they have now.
