The Brooklyn boy who lives in London, Julian Velard recently released his latest single, Jimmy Dean and Steve McQueen. Unusual title for a song and it’s unusual that there isn’t any remixes and no B-sides on the CD either which I’m expecting with all singles. But I don’t see that as a bad thing, it makes a change and a remix doesn’t fit in with a jazz, pop artist does it? Be interesting to hear though.

Taking into consideration that Velard’s music has hints of jazz included in his song it gives you the foot tapping, finger clicking feel when you listen to this song. I especially like the beginning of Jimmy Dean and Steve McQueen because you can hear a car skidding as the cheery, bouncy piano and almost Christmas jingle bells sound starts up. Soon after that Velard’s effortless vocals slides in with his first lyrics giving this song a Jack Johnson style. Near the end of the song you hear the car skidding effect again as the piano finishes with the symbol from the drums settling for the last few seconds.

The same cheery, bouncy piano rhythm continues through the song with the jazz sounding drums and with Velard’s vocals on top of this makes Jimmy Dean and Steve McQueen a good song all round. This genre of music isn’t usually in my music collection but I can’t say that this track is bad because I would be lying. You should give this song a listen, especially if you like a bit of jazz.
