I was recently impressed by the newest and self titled album by Avenged Sevenfold for it's diversity, songwriting skill and musicianship - particularly the song that sounded like something out of a Tim Burton movie. I probably listened to the album about five times before moving on to something else and out of the whole album there were probably only about one or two tracks that I really didn't like.
Not being good with song names I didn't know what to expect when putting this single in but to my dismay they have chosen to release the worst and cheesiest song on the album. I'm not much of a fan of country music in general with Johnny Cash being about the only exception. This song is a horrifically cheesy rock country ballad that will make 98% of the people on this earth cringe and grimace. What confuses me more of this song choice as a single is the length of this song (originally 6:33) with the single edit being (4:29) ending with an 80s linear fade out in the weirdest of places adding to the cheese factor of this track. Even at 4:29 what radio stations are gong to play this? I could see American radio stations getting behind this song a lot because America has a massive country following and I get where Avenged were trying to go with this song in terms of helping them gain more fan diversity. The UK listeners should have been given a more rocking single and I just find myself wondering what is going through Craig Aaronson and Andy Olyphant (A&R Guys on this track) heads to make this a UK single.
The song isn't that bad it's just a bit cheesy and a bit power ballad for me to take it seriously. Plus their chosen drop out point makes the song feel completely unfinished. If you like Avenged Sevenfold you might like this single. If you have never heard of Avenged Sevenfold and this is your introduction then chances are you won't be listening to them again in a hurry. Harsh but fair.
