Emerging from a scene that is saturated with tinny-sounding Fender guitars set to clean and enough pretentious mock-stars to satisfy even the most elite of Cardiff's tight indie clique, Man Without Country are very much a breath of fresh air. Their sound is incredibly different from any other gigging band within the region which shows a determined effort to staying true to their influences and unique sound.
The hype about this band throughout the last six months has been astronomical and due to the nature of fresh talent in the music business, it really is now or never. However, despite the constant struggle of surrendering to marketable, upbeat summer feel indie pop, Man Without Country have with this three track EP, shown the world that opposing this popular genre was a smart move as their sound is now not only unique and well defined, but incredibly catchy. The hazy and delerious sounding 'Handcuffs' offers the most memorable singalong chorus of this particular selection of songs whilst opener 'Victory Stance' sums up the band's sound well as a whole and shows listerners exactly how talented musicians and songwriters they are.
Men Without Country? Perhaps. The music of this band is far from what one might assume with the current South Wales music scene but this in itself is one of the band's fortes, as it takes real determination and vision to be innovative in music. Man Without Country are THE local band to keep an eye on in 2008, so if you are part of the aforementioned pretentious indie clique, you might want to invest in this band ASAP for extra cool points within the skinny jeans and tight top massive.
