Primitive Reason - Cast The Way [EP] We all loved that nu-metal shit back in the day, I don’t care who you are, it’s nothing that any of us are very proud of, in fact it’s kind of like how some people embarrassingly reminisce about the 80’s, but still, it happened so let’s live with it and try and move on, well not if your in a band called Primitive Reason. Cast The Way is without a doubt the worst thing I have heard this year, quite a big statement to make I know, but wait no it isn’t, it really is that bad! The sound is so dated and hacked out that it would make even disco seem like a fresh idea. Opening track ‘Com’on’ starts out quite promisingly, a slick drum beat and a psychedelic guitar hook that instantly throws images of lava lamps and inflatable furniture into your head. Once the main body of the song kicks in (after about 30 seconds) it’s all downhill from here. Apart form the fact that the vocals sound like they were recorded in a pair of socks and the guitars possibly at the bottom of a silage pit, this song in particular will make you want to rip your ears off in a complete rage at it’s sheer awfulness. It doesn’t really get much better from here on in, the irritatingly titled ‘Thus The Rust’ is simply terrible and ‘The Reckoning Beneath’ isn’t much better. It isn’t always the bands fault, but with a vocal style as terrible as that of Guillermo De Llera I don’t think even Led Zeppelin as a backing group could carry him. He tries to sound like Zack De La Rocha but ends up sound like that idiot from HED (pe), anyone remember them? Nah, didn’t think so. In conclusion I can only really say sorry to Primitive Reason, I have a lot of respect for bands who put out self releases and build up a following purely on the back of their own work, it’s just when the music is this bad and this, well, primitive, it’s difficult to say anything good really. If you need confirmation of this then take a quick listen to closer ‘Init Inus’, oh dear, oh dear. |
