Those of us with strong enough memories will remember all the way back to summer 2007 (back in the day) when Gossip's "Standing In The Way Of Control" was dominating the airwaves like a force 5 hurricane. The accompanying album failed to make anywhere near as great an impact (being as it was full...

The Irish music scene is a complete mystery to myself and probably 99% of the people reading this review right now. (Being very careful not to offend anyone here) the only Irish musical export that spring to mind are U2; yep Bono and his strange concept on spectacle apparel. The Blizzards however,...

The Bowerbirds are on the move with their latest release - Upper Air from Dead Oceans Records. To support the record and share with their fans, they're touring with one of their favorite bands, MEGAFUN.

This neo-folk group has a unique, vaguely '60s folk sound with their stripped down...

I am such a new music junkie that whenever I discover an artist for the first time that I like, I automatically assume they must be new, and what I am listening to must be their debut release. If I discover that this is in fact not the case then I wonder how the hell I never discovered them...

What exactly caused the heart attack that killed Michael Jackson is not officially known (of course there are many who believe he is not dead at all), but I have a theory. Michael Jackson heard “Tabasco Sole” by The Voluntary Butler Scheme (23 year old Rob Jones from Stourbridge), and the shock... Much of the buzz that surrounded Crocodiles supposed arrival on the ‘no-fi’ scene was down to one of its major players, No Age. The LA Sub Poppers made enough of a noise about the San Diego based duo that every man and his blog were pretty snappy in coming down from their Crystal Stilts to find...

There is a certain presence around Engineers that carries them over into one of the most unique artists releasing music at this moment in time. They manage to create this warm textured layer of sound that is simply beautiful. This alongside a haunting, yet uplifting vocal contribution makes... As I strive to find the proper words to describe Lloyd Dobler Effect’s self-titled album, I find myself at a loss. My fiancé defined the album as “folk alternative.” I figure if you throw in a slight tang of casino lounge music, then you’ll just about have it.

Oddly enough, I remember nothing... Among the underground indie circles of the USA is where the legend of Jay Reatard originates. Some people say he's a genius in the vein of Mike Patton for garage rock, some call him crazy with his live shows (and sometimes lack thereof).

Keeping this in mind I decided to give Watch Me Fall a spin...

I have just joined the staff here at AltSounds and I'm very happy to be here. While I wait to receive the first few discs of brand new music I have asked to review, I wanted to recommend an album that's a couple years old that I really like. The band has been mentioned here before, but it appears... Imagine the Rolling Stones writing a new classic after all these years. It’s not that hard, because someone else already did it for them; Oband. The band are a little bit more brassy and a little bit more Swedish than the real Stones. They demonstrate on their 2009 demo ´It’s the Tension´ that... If Heaven has a discothèque, they're bumping Twisted Tongue up there!

Soulful and as funky as ten George Clinton's, the debut album from Twisted Tongue rocked my booty till it couldn't rock no more. Mark Dalton and Dave Jay fling funk styling's all over your walls right from the first track to...
Once again, Brian Glaze leads us through a lounge club whilst you are off your face on psilocybins. Brain Glaze & The Night Shift release another tasty contribution to American psychedelia with "Green Living". At times friendly, other times verging on the morose- this is an album of rock, drama,...

San Francisco has long been known as a major contributor to indy freak outs, and Battlehooch more than does the city proud. Incredible! Really amazing. "Piecechow", the debut album from Battlehooch, is a work of art, with blasting power-pop saxophones, and heavenly vocal harmonies. I'm reminded of... Any band or artist, of any genre to mention "Myspace" in their album has got some serious answers to, well, answer.

By sticking to a Hoobastank song writing style and rhythm, Carolina Liar successfully create sing along, easy to listen to music. Continuous plays build your appreciation for the...
The title track from this debut single shows that they aren't afraid of blending a bit of emo & pop to achieve maximum effect, we even have the key change ending that wouldn't be out of place on a Westlife track. Blend in some well written lyrics, alongside some decent musicianship and production... Was this a just lovely moment or an Echobelly resurgence? Is it ever a good idea to revisit your idols and heroes? Not that I was ever an obsessive Echobelly fan, but they sure had something back in the Britpop day. Yes hardly original I know, but then neither are Peter Parker in any way shape or form, and originality is overrated anyway. Besides, if you are gonna call yourself Peter Parker, you sure as hell better like Spiderman, or at least be prepared for the childish humour of others that do.

Anyone who read my Mclusky Ex Files feature earlier this year, will have an idea of how much of a fan of them I remain. The pain felt after their ‘passing’ was eased a little when singer/guitarist Andy "Falco" Falkous and drummer Jack Egglestone formed Future of the Left with ex-Jarcrew... Music has been filled with bands that take qualities and influence from a number of styles and genres, and The Lonely Forest seem to be no exception. The four piece from Long Island, New York bring with them a unique musical cocktail of Ska, Jazz, Alternative and even garage to name but a few. ... Danny B and Little Dave are not the kind of names that people would normally associate with a rock band. Danny B and Little Dave however, do sound like the names of two very bad, extremely ridiculous, white rappers, who make Vanilla Ice look talented.

Thankfully this is not the case. Instead they...

There are some albums that you just simply cannot rate on terms of “music and lyrics.” Some albums can only be scored solely on their ability to get you to score with the opposite sex (or the same sex if that's what floats your boat). For example, take Sarah McLachalan’s 'Fumbling Towards... Mark Ronson seems to be making an appearance all over the music scene at the moment. Sticking his production mitts all over the big names; the likes of Amy Winehouse, Robbie Williams, Lily Allen and now his newest by The Rumble Strips. There is no debate as to the quality of his works, but... The Lonely H are the newest of a slew of bands bringing a “classic rock revival,” to the modern music scene. Their third album 'Concrete Class', released under the label The Control Group in 2009 sounds like a tribute to all of the bands before their time, causing it to triumph at points, and fail...
I start this review with shall we say a confession: Deathcore as a genre I find to be quite annoying. More so in my area where there seems to be a huge over saturation of it! Jason Chung is Nosaj Thing and he's been putting himself about a bit of late. What with a regular spot at Low End Theory (a club night in his hometown of LA), remixing friend and label mate Flying Lotus and now releasing his debut long player Drift he's one busy chap.

Listening to this album... Flower spirit ditties of basketball.

Three of the most memorable moments of the Deerhoof show at the Deaf Institute and three Deerhoof track names rolled in to one as my opening statement! Yeah. That’s the height of my creative limit in comparison to what I witnessed and loved at this one... Anyone who is aware of John Dwyer’s work whilst fronting garage-rockers Pink and Brown and Coachwhips, will know that he is an artist who makes music on his own terms. Those terms have not often included ‘great melody’, or ‘write all the best songs the best garage bands of the 60’s never got...

We move on to another new band to come out of Canada with Neverdie's latest self released EP named Phase 2: Revolution (which makes me assume phase 1 has already happened...)

Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia (which is an island just outside of Canada for the curious ones amongst us) come the latest band to try and break an already over-saturated metalcore scene.

A twang of guitar, a crash of cymbals and a deep baritone that mixes Cash and Cave in equal measure to intone the opening couplet “I tried to bury the blood of my lord, six feet under the Tennessee gorge”. Ripper is one of those old school journeymen of rock who finally garnered enough kudos and momentum (and weight?) to ante up and crack on with a solo effort. Man's fronted Judas Priest for Christ's sake!

Have you seen that one movie Rock Star, when Boogie Nights climbs out the audience and takes... Recorded on August 23, 1999, David Bowie’s Storytellers could have been a classic, instead it falls far from greatness in many ways. I wonder why VH1 decided to release this edition instead of others that are in the can such as CSN&Y or Steely Dan? Bowie’s Storytellers has some good tracks, but... Although Gary Lewis never had the best musical chops in the business, he and his Playboys managed to have a respectable string of hits through ’65 and ’66.
