Coinciding with the release of Marianne Faithfull's Easy Come, Easy Go, a collection of 18 songs written by other people and interpreted in Faithfull's unique way. 'Hold On Hold On' is a pacier version of a song often associated with 'The New Pornographer's' Neko Case.

Hold On Hold On was clearly... Tiesto got it just right with the epic track "Adagio For Strings". Every chav under the bus shelters across the country recognizes that tune, and it's a banger. Simple bass drum patterns, synthesizers and build ups that make you nod your head like Churchill (the dog). Gui Buratto has all of this... And so here we have it the musical of the film of the book Empire Of The Sun by JG Ballard with Christian "You're a fucking amateur" Bale replaced by men dressed as a cross between Adam Ant's love child, a Thundercat, and Beauty & The Beast (the dude from the shit TV show specifically) any hint of...
Hailing from my current place of residence, Nottingham, comes the artist British soul has been waiting for. While his voice may not have the husky power of Seal or the soulful vibrato of Omar, he makes up for this with an original sound with clear inspiration from the likes of Al Green and Teddy... Storsveit Nix Noltes are an 11-piece supergroup of Icelandic musicians so flagrantly talented and prolific that many of them may well already be scattered amongst your CD shelves – they’ve played within múm, Sigur Ros, Benni Hemm Hemm, Animal Collective and Mice Parade to name but a few.

But what... If neatly categorising music is your thing, well....good luck with this! Brazilian João Gustavo refers to his sound as "trash folk" and while there is certainly some truth in this term, any attempt, even by the artist himself, to ascribe this song a genre does it a disservice.

João's lo-fi,...
To produce a loveable radio friendly indie tune these days there is a formula that can be used that is guaranteed to work. Catchy sing-along chorus, non offensive obscenity free lyrics and a basic uninspired thump-clap drum beat.

Unfortunately the Manchester based 3-piece the Answering machine... If you believe Google is a powerful hallucinogenic that gives you a quick burst of energy for 15-20 minutes, well the band DMT, with their new single "Touch You", could inject you with an energy infusion lasting around 5 minutes and resulting in euphoria, if you are inclined to a bit of dance or...

What is a Kovak? Is it a type of cleaning product, a bald lollipop loving detective, a name change for Kodak? No, Kovak are a five piece electro pop powerhouse that hail from the beaches of Brighton. Kovak are currently riding an electric powered wave that they have built up from hosting a regular...
I don’t know if it’s just my home city of Manchester, but for all the numerous positives to be taken from seeing a band in an intimate venue, there is one rather major drawback – the sound. So many of the smaller venues in this city just don’t have adequate sound systems/engineers. Now both are...

I can’t quite remember how I stumbled across Pure Reason Revolution for the first time back in 2005, but I do remember how dumbfounded I felt. The track was ‘The Bright Ambassadors of Morning’ from their debut EP Cautionary Tales For The Brave, and I’d never heard anything quite like it. It was... Mica Levi’s first release Filthy Friends was a collective effort with help from musicians such as MC Ghostpoet and jazz band Troyka, and established her in the London garage and grime scene. With big names behind filthy friends and signing up to electro pop label Accidental Records, it was a solid...
It has been argued that the punk rock scene within the UK has become somewhat stale in recent years, with an influx of new bands proving to be nothing better than average. Step up Newport quintet Save Your Breath who attempt to provide that missing spark with their latest EP; ‘Nothing worth... This album sounds like they’ve taken an upbeat album and just slowed most of it down. The tempo goes from slow and boring to dull and boring and back again. It sounds as though Howling Bells forced Goldfrapp to do an indie rock album.

The female singer seems to have been told to make her voice as... Having first discovered Imperial Leisure at a private party that they were playing a few years ago. Immediately I went home to see what I could find out about them. The answer wasn't very much, but they have gone from strength to strength from there and are finally getting the recognition they...
In case you haven’t heard yet, musical genius and saviour of the sonic-world (okay, my personal, bias opinion there...) Jack White of the stripey-fame has yet another new band. The Raconteurs? No, they’re old news – Jack has once again teamed up with Little Jack from said band and Dean Fertita... Gaining her prominence at the tender age of 17 with 1964 hit As Tears Go By, Marianne Faithfull’s legacy is one of jaded romance, drug problems and her a constant struggle with the acceptance of fame. Faithfull now stands aged 62 as a veteran who is not required to add titles to her extensive... The Living Daylights are a 5 piece punk band hailing from Lincoln, who formed in the summer of 2007 and have already racked up an impressive number of live shows throughout the UK and Europe. The Living Daylights have played with bands such as Smoke on Fire, Failsafe, Mike Park (ex Skankin’ Pickle)...
Expectation for this gig could hardly have been greater, but what the Dickens the crowd made of it all is hard to say. Animal Collective are not exactly crowd pleasers; they don’t pander to their audience, they don’t play ‘the hits’, they don’t say much, and they don’t always perform their songs...

When your eighth album, your highest profile release, is cooed over by critics and greeted ecstatically by legions of fans in January, do you really need to release a single in March?

When the single is as good as Animal Collective's "My Girls", the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. The song is from... Mother’s Mess
On the same day that many people gathered around the O2 Academy in Liverpool for the sold-out concert of the Courteneers, the venue also presented four other indie rock bands, a little less famous and a little less sold-out, on the small stage. The first band was called Mother’s...

Many people will debate the value of bands such as The Auteur, the value of any band that aspires to be Jimmy Eat World, but end up sounding more like Billy Eat Busted. The kind of band who aspire to have one of their songs feature on The Hills or some other such American poppycock. These bands... The bar has been set so low for former American Idol contestants, mediocrity could be mistaken for greatness if using their standard. Such is the case for Season 5 winner, Taylor Hicks. While he may have had memorable performances on the show, his under-performance since then led to being dropped...

It would seem that some bands get to a certain stage in their career when they are selling millions of records and doing sell-out stadium shows that they begin to coast a little bit when it comes to releasing music and that time would appear to have arrived for the Kaiser Chiefs at album number...
The Black Lips are brilliant band. They are fantastic live and on record, and up until now there has not been much they have produced that has fallen short of any expectations their fans may have. They particularly know how to write great 3 minute pop singles, just like Mum never used to make. ... Lazers ‘N’ Shit is the second album by Syntheme on Planet Mu and is straight up acid. Lazers ‘N’ Shit has a Roland TR 808 at its heart and of course a TB 303 for its soul. The whole album is acid, and it never pretends to be anything else, which some may say, is a pity.

Lazers ‘N’ Shit covers... No longer hiding "In The Shadows", The Rasmus come back with another epic ballad of cheese. The Finnish rockers hit the big time scene back in 2003 (forming as a band in 1994) with that very annoying but incredibly catchy "ooohhh ohhhhhhhhhh, in the shadows...." song, hitting number one slots in...
The R- Tracks promo material states that “ Remano’s music has the power of taking machine rhythms to new emotive levels, with the attention to detail luring the listener back for repeated listens.”

Does it really? Can R-Tracks prove to be one of the rare electronic albums that doesn’t seem... Boxcutter, aka Barry Lynn, is now an established dubstep/electro artist. A glance at his myspace page is testament to this, as we can can see that he is playing more regularly and in more diverse places than most.

The Arecibo Message promotional material states that the Arecibo Message album is a... Kierononononon’s new website can be found at Kierononon - Awesome Brutal Techno Punk Music!, and you would think that the title of the site give us some clues as to the content of the album. It does, and it doesn’t. This album is not brutal in its mood, not techno in its production skills, yet it...
You sometimes have to wonder how Scotland can continue to churn out bands who so seamlessly can hit the pop heartstrings. Over the last 30 years there has been a steady stream of acts from pretty much anybody on Postcard Records through to Belle & Sebastian and now onto the latest batch of acts... Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains - ‘Who do we care for?’ is the first single release from Sebastien Grainger’s debut self titled record; Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains. Formerly of Death from Above 1979, Grainger has recently signed to Saddle Creek Records arguably (thanks to the efforts... “Good golly AFI are a good band.” I wish I could write something witty, clever or insightful as an opening line but that was the first thought I had while listening to this album. Actually, that’s a bit of a misleading sentiment. In fairness to Oregon quartet the Gruesome Boys, their second release...
The night of the gig at The Stock Room in Sheffield and it was empty. Horse Feathers were stood playing to each other with intensity and concentration. I have been a fan of Horse Feathers for years and there I was stood listening, soaking up this solitary band all to myself. I would like to say I... This debut album from Cardiff-based (yet sort-of exiles) Future Of The Left was released back in late 2007, but I see that no review has yet been posted which is a crime for such a fantastic album.

After reading a few reviews about this record, it seems standard to mention the bands whose ashes... With over a million records sold worldwide, Cannibal Corpse, who formed in 1988 are one of the biggest death metal bands in the world and have been dominating the scene for nearly 20 years since the release of their controversial, debut album Eaten back to life (1991). This set the trend for their...

For those of you who know of Roll Deep, you're probably aware that Wiley, a fairly well known and successful MC, is part of this 14 member collective. Hailing from Glasgow and sounding the way they do you get the feeling that The Xcerts are going to have countless comparisons to Biffy Clyro and to be honest I'm not going dissuade from that particular argument as there really is something incredibly Biff-esque about them.

Is Britney back? I give props to Britney for still trying to be the entertainer; clearly people have this Britney obsession. After her immaculate choke at the 2007 MTV Video Awards, people are either praying for her to fall off a cliff or rise out of the ashes like a phoenix (In her case growing... Rock music has had its fair share of wonderfully unique vocalists, from Janis Joplin to Black Francis – singers whose style you couldn’t even begin to attempt to mimic if you were so inclined to try. Such unexampled deliveries have brought much joy to many a music fan, which makes it even more...
Arghhhhhhhh!!!!! I tried to be a fair reviewer and gave this EP by Sundayschool a good few listens before sticking to my initial dismal reaction, but if anything those extra listens have probably done it even more damage than good.

I can see exactly what Sundayschool are trying to be, what mood... Ah, what can you say about the cheeky-chappy, lovable scamp that is Pete (sorry, Peter) Doherty.
