"Wake. I am Awake," this record certainly wakes you up. The combination of brutal guitars, up-beat drums and emo lyrics make Ghost On Pegasus Bridge live up to their so called 'Epic-core' genre. There is a mixture of horrifically dark, deep, bass/guitar riffs alongside some double kick... I like Disturbed. Always have. But even I don’t understand what is going on with their latest release Indestructible.

First of all, I never really did see the need behind Disturbed’s gimmick mascot, “The Guy”. Even more so now I see it with it's full-bodied, videogame-like depiction on the... When The Appleseed Cast moved onto the post-rock path, it was as if they had always trodden it, and was the moment they became really quite interesting. It seems that Ontario’s Driving on City Sidewalks believe so too, as there is a massive influence from the Kansas four-piece’s more recent works...
Hailing from the musical hotbed that is New York City, Looker certainly invoke the sound of some of their city’s most famous musical icons, from Blondie to The Ramones. They’re the kind of band that remind you how tragic the closure of CBGB’s really was, as it almost seems wrong to listen to them...

Duo acts rarely seem to pack much instrumentation into their acts unless they are powered by some all powerful leeching label and thus have 5000 trumpet playing mice at their beckon-call which is simply just cheating. So, it's quite refreshing to hear Butler-Williams (that's Chris Butler & Noel...

Doves return after a 4-year hiatus with the release of their 4th long-player 'Kingdom Of Rust' on April 6th this is preceded by the album's title track making it's way out into the world on March 30th. So after 4 whole years in the wilderness and the continued upheaval of the musical landscape how...

The M’s - Real Close Ones is a fun album which bravely blends one hundred and one styles into one. The overall effect is a bluesy sci-fi, psychedelic rock-pop..... you get the idea. Key influences dominating the mix are the Kinks, late Beatles and Phil Spector. Real Close Ones is the M’s third... Introspection opens with delicate symbol work courtesy of Scott McKnight, which at first has the feeling of relaxing you. However just as you may start to be lulled into a sense that Introspection is of a lower tempo song to other songs by The Paris Riots, you’ll be somewhat fooled!

Shortly into...

I’m always amazed at how the five Southern boys of Saliva continue to completely reinvent themselves and their music with each of their albums to date. And it is almost impossible to compare their sixth and latest release, Cinco Diablo, with their 2007 album Blood Stained Love Story, my favourite...
Tonight is a night of the unknown. I have no idea who the support band is, and I don’t know too much about Airborne Toxic Event, other than Pitchfork gave them 1.6 for their album review, and they responded by writing a nice polite letter in reply to the writer. It seems the band have a lot of... The post-hardcore genre is a very hard part of the music scene to get right. Obvious pioneers of the genre include At The Drive-In, Hell Is For Heroes, Hundred Reasons, Million Dead, Biffy Clyro and the like. Thursday themselves got it just right in 2003 with their apparent, non-political 'War All... From the very first glance of Remember Remember’s debut liner notes, it’s instantly clear that the album is going to be a unique listening experience. For example, founder member Graeme Ronald’s instrumentation credits read like Andy Kaufman’s shopping list, “Gatorra, E-Bow, Guzheng Harp, Kalimba,...
Exempla Traunt encapsulate the essence of the classic movie signature track, with their debut EP ‘I Feel You’. Igniting flashes of almost iconic movie scenes at every turn, Exempla Traunt plug the latent emotion of the power grab from opening track Lake Shores and its thrilling parallels to the... Now I thought Glen Campbell was the guy who used to present a kids TV show on a Sunday morning?!? Clearly this isn't the same guy as the aforementioned is dead and this Glen Campbell is covering Foo Fighters and Green Day - as you do! This Glen Campbell is claimed to be (and I say this because I... Pulled Apart By Horses – I Punched A Lion In The Throat CD Single

Taking their name from a demented torture method, you might be a little wary of what to expect before listening to Pulled Apart By Horses, but fear not, the greatness is to come! Hailing from Leeds, Pulled Apart By Horses who are...
I find that there's something deliriously joyful about New Rhodes, they write nice and simple straight-forward indie/pop songs that are just so easy on the ear, James Williams has the sort of voice that conjures up images of Morrissey if he was a sweet little boy who liked steak and chasing girls... It’s always fun to be the outcasts, the outsiders, the underdogs, the renegades. Okay, maybe not renegades, that’s probably taking it a bit far, but would look awesome as a quote on a press release or the back of a CD. My pathetically over exaggerated and dramatically made point is that nobody in...

Six Feet Under are a bit of a death metal super group, since they contain members of Cannibal Corpse, Massacre and Death. Originally set up as a side project, Six Feet Under have gone on to have a very successful career, releasing 9 albums. Six Feet Under were originally set up to portray a...
For those of you unfamiliar with TJ Divers (and this includes myself) I feel that I should at least briefly outline who he is and what he does before getting to the album in question. Here goes: He's an English singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, formerly of UK band Lounge: Fly and Oz punks... While unpacking the perfectly presentable Call it Arson 7” Moth Wash, thoughts come rushing, and I’m taken back to the day I received my first brand new vinyl. There is nothing better than opening an impeccably packaged vinyl for the first time. And this one is wrapped especially tidy, complete... Judging from the front cover, I assume I’m not the target audience for this Rock S’Cool III DVD, as the photo is obviously aimed at men, although the lady does look awkwardly young, and the slogan “A spanking good clip collection” isn’t exactly how I would describe it. If you ask me, it seems odd...
I will probably get looked at sideways for saying this, but the singer of this band has 'the voice'. You may or may not understand this, but you get so many alternative/emo/indie bands whose singer has this voice. It's when they sound squeaky when trying to hit high notes, and then very rough when... Picture this, a rammed Moho, a crowd on the eve of almost a riot, you could almost touch the energy of excitement and anticipation, lads jumping around throwing red stripe over everyone in wait for their new idols, the sweet smell of perfume from the many girls lining up in the crowd to catch a... House of Heroes, as the name might suggest (on a subliminal level), are another pop-punk American band. Due to a mass influx of this musical fashion in the mid 90’s (think Green Day and Blink 182) and then a more alternative take on it in the early 00’s (yup, Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco) ...
Even after listening to the ‘Intro’ of The Method To My Medium’s The Sincerities EP a couple of times, I still am not sure what’s going on. And yet, it’s probably the best minute and 6 seconds on the EP.

I’m all for people living their musical dream, especially if they have some obvious musical...

What a bunch of miserable fuckers. Crystal Stilts are a stripped down garage band that has ridiculously over-cavernous production. Their overall sound is reminiscent of early Joy Division and Jesus and Mary Chain, the only difference being that early Joy Division and Jesus and Mary Chain was... More Cowbell! That's right, you heard me. MORE COWBELL!

Fake Problems are walking a tightrope between pop punk and some form of crazy Alt Country which has been dropped in a blender with some celtic rock. They are the love child of Rilo Kiley and Bruce Springstein making babies with the son of...
The Freezing Fog return to deliver their second album since their formation in early 2006, as the Mancunian five piece attempt to take the modern music world by storm. The self-titled record reflects just how far The Freezing Fog have come in three years.

The album begins with the excellent ‘In... Tin Soldiers' single ‘Wait For You’ released at the end of last year has been sitting on my desk for a few weeks now and despite a whole series of listening sessions to the record, I am, unfortunately, not taken by it although I cannot really fault the record.

After receiving negative feedback... Picture yourself in a log cabin, snow outside, hot cuppa in your paws and a roaring fire at your feet. Not a care in the world, this is where 'One Way To Be Alone' transports you. Beautiful harmonious vocals, charming guitar notes and well driven drumming are endless in this record. The three way...

25 years on and Sepultura are still at it. This time with new drummer, Jean Dolabella, at the helm. A-Lex is a concept album, based on the book A Clockwork Orange. This would explain the inclusion of a rather oddly placed Beethoven cover, which pops up sporadically, towards the end of the 18... Having made it to the 2nd album where so many bands over the last few years have failed, The Rifles have opted not to divert course but to continue on down the same road that garnered them enough fans first time round to make this 2nd helping possible. Unfortunately I'm a bit of a believer in bands... Mastodon are an Atlanta-based, globally-revered hard rock band. A weekend in New York City is much like a kid in a candy store when it comes to where to spend your night. The choices are endless! Science vs Romance’s recent EP Life Through Your Eyes is occupied by 4 very listenable, danceable, grungy punk pop tracks , with clever and witty lyrics and old school guitar solos for good measure.

First tune, ‘Out of Luck’, strays nicely into branches of early Weezer but with a distinctly... To me, The Places We Lived certainly captivates the essence of a journey. It is almost like a lifetime of happenings all crammed into one on a fantastic record. Raw, emotional and thorough. Recorded in July 2008 at Glasgow's most intimate of venue's The Captain's Rest 'Quietly Now!' sees Frightened Rabbit unleash their 2nd album 'The Midnight Organ Fight' in a more stripped-down acoustic form which fails to diminish the album instead invoking a more emotional response from singer... The first thing I notice about Oh No Not Stereo is that they are a mixed bag of eccentricity and oddity, five musicians are on stage, each one a practical polar opposite of the last. Despite being hailed as a two piece (drummer and lead singer, who write all the music and record), they are...

Trap Them waste no time in showing you what they are about. From the second Seizures in Barren Praise starts you are engulfed in this amazing wall of sound. The styling is based on 80’s punk and hardcore, but pushed towards the metal side, called d-beat hardcore, then mixed with some splintering...
I first discovered Lithurgy though my brother, who knows some of the guys in the band. I then one day managed to see them at one their shows. What can I say but wow!
