This album starts with the catchy, and brilliantly named, ‘Bring Me the Head of Paul McCartney on Heather Mills’ Wooden Peg (dropping bombs on the White House). . The lyrics are fantastic, e.g. while it’s fucking your girlfriend and it’s flying in space, and it’s putting you to shame as it spits in... Patrick, Jared, Kris and Jesse are known as Innerpartysystem who originate from Pennsylvania. Soon to be touring the UK later this month and getting excited for their release on their album on the 9th September. Innerpartysystem are a band who will be around for awhile.

It’s a shame that iTunes... An unsigned band from Cambridge, Massachusetts, Hot Box self released their EP, The Histone Code. The name of the EP probably popped into their brains when the bassist, Amanda Dellevigne and the guitarist and vocalist, Danielle Stolzenberg met in the neuroscience laboratory of Boston College with...
Sheffield’s finest home-grown heroes Rotary Ten are one of those bands it’s difficult not to fall in love with, irresistible guitar hooks, beautifully sung harmonies and a charm and sincerity that is somewhat lacking in modern British song-writing.

Having signed to London based label Xtra Mile...

Being the debut full length outing from this New Jersey based metal band, it is difficult to know what to expect from Swashbuckle’s ‘Crewed By The Damned’. Musically, the mellow opener ‘Under The Black Flag’ keeps very much in theme with the band’s unique pirate get-ups and the CD’s artwork,... The first thing that hit me when I put this album on was the uncanny likeness to Swedish pop punkers Millencolin! But a few tracks on and I realized that Means have so much more to offer. The sweet melodic vocals come from guitarist Matt Goud but it doesn’t take long for lead vocalist Dylan...

The first track “The Flood” starts off with the sound of breaking glass like someone is throwing bottles against the ground or wall and stepping on the glass crushing it. The... I have always viewed Saddle Creek records as more of an elite club than a label. They rarely sign new bands and when they do they are usually artists closely associated with Bright Eyes, The Faint or Cursive. Having released the split EP ‘One Jug Of Wine, Two Vessels’ with Bright Eyes on former...
I will admit that the first thing that drew me to pick this album up was the artwork. Before I had even heard a single note the artwork in itself had captivated me. Its always nice to see a band that take the time and effort to create a full package to work with the music. Hey Rosetta have done... Shai Hulud were one of the first in the metalcore genre. They helped make it what it is, and as one of the originators, they have spent the last 5 years on the sidelines watching the genre be raped by a parade of sub-par musicians and copycats. Well now they're back, guns blazing, ready to reclaim... Being familiar with previous work of this band, I was keen to hear how their sound has grown since their 2007 release of the E.P ‘The Birds and the Bees’. ‘Castles’ is an E.P full of high quality songs that were designed to get you dancing and is a showcase for how the band has matured and...
HORSE THE BAND

Californian metal band, HORSE the Band, have created somewhat of a concept album in their latest effort, A Natural Death. The songs are mostly concerned with nature, man as animal, and life and death. Working perhaps with the idea of life as cyclical, the album ends with the same...

‘Hope Valley’ offers us a hark back to rock as it was known in this country a few years ago without sounding dated, but certainly with 90’s influences.

Nottingham rockers Pilgrim Fathers do not sound particularly unique, which may hinder their growth and longevity as a band, but the music is... Urbnri are a band of four from Glasgow, Scotland who are quite big in Scotland by the looks of things but I doubt they are well known outside their home country. Reading their biography on their myspace page frightens me, prison sentences and drug abuse will become their forthcoming album ‘Young...

The first time I heard this band was on myspace a month ago when they sent me an add request. I get so many requests from bands on myspace and I do try to listen to every one. But all I seem to get is the same old stuff, typical metalcore style, drop tuned and with riffs that are so easily related... As the opening riff kicks in to the opening and title track “Hail Destroyer”, you know that this album is going to really kick and when the chorus vocal comes in, chanting “Hail Destroyer! Hail Destroyer! Hail Destroyer!” you really know that you wouldn’t rather be listening to anything else. The... Nicole Morier and Legs Le Brock from Los Angeles, California formed an Electro beat, Pop duo – Electrocute. What did I expect from this band? Well…I’ve never heard of them before but as you can probably guess for yourself, their name gives it away. Electro genre? Bingo. Are they any good?...
It’s a gloriously sunny day, and I’m driving home from a weekend with the folks at their home by the seaside – what better soundtrack to my journey than Darla Farmer, I wondered?

Well I can tell you, this CD took my by surprise, for sure. A manic, big-band/hillbilly style album, it’s certainly a... I first heard of Underoath a couple of weeks before seeing them live at Taste of Chaos ’06. Only hearing those tracks they played live that night I thought ‘These are pretty good, I may have to listen to some more of their stuff’. But I never really did, bad? I know. Realising they were up for a...

A Great Big Pile of Leaves are giving away two free EP’s to download, I advise you to download them instantly. Even if you’ve never heard of them, I assure you’ll like them the moment the first guitar riff hits your ears.

Last year I had the pleasure of seeing Frank Turner play live when he came through Cardiff on his UK tour. Now, Ive been to a lot of shows in my time, full band, singer songwriters, hell, Ive even seen Jay-Z live but until that point I had not seen a performance as intimate and heart felt as... 3 years ago in the aftermath of the Indie scene created by bands like The Libertines and The Others, we were left with a series of poor copycat artists, each one promising something new the likes of which we'd never heard before but ultimately, it all sounded the same. The (I hate to say) scene... It’s not very often we have the privilege of saying something lives up to its billing and creates exactly what is expected and anticipated, if not more. It’s been five years in the making, and in that time it would have been all too easy for The Out_Circuit to lose their cutting edge. To much...
I have a slight soft spot for Arizona bands, for perfectly shallow and pointless reasons I assure you. My reason is that quite possibly my all time band, Jimmy Eat World are residents of Arizona, I’ve never been there and I’m undoubtedly overlooking a lot more bands from Arizona, some I’ve heard...

Exeter’s Rat Attack are proving that the spirit of punk rock still exists strongly. Mainly thanks to the representation of a strong underground UK scene; punk bands have been thriving and keeping the genre and the spirit it embodies alive for many a year. Even after the mainstream forgot or... So, my first Altsounds review, and if I’m honest I wasn’t sure what to expect when the 2008 Peachfuzz album – So Here We Are Tonight -arrived at my humble abode. However for me, the title was a good starting point. It’s storylike, and the album certainly didn’t disappoint when it came to stories....
Is it a stunt, or is this for real? Scarlett Johansson makes her first, and perhaps only, venture into the music world, with her album of Tom Waits covers called Anywhere I Lay My Head. This album being attributed to Scarlett Johansson is curious, as I suspect she didn't have that much to do with... Ok, stop whatever you’re doing and get your hands on this single. This outstanding single from these Lorraine boys will be worth a listen…a few listens too.

In ‘When I Return To The World’ an Indian guitar rhythm starts off this song before everything else kicks in. 80’s power snare can be heard... I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that three guys huddled round a pub table in Birmingham had said ‘Let’s start a band!’ knowing full well none of them had any real talent but went ahead with it anyway and recorded some songs.

What can I say, I got this CD with no thought of it being anywhere near as good as it is. Not saying that I expected it to be bad, I just didn’t think it would be this good. This is a very hard-hitting album! This album hits the ground running, with the immediate opening track sounding like... When you first put in the album "Worrisome Heart" by American songstress Melody Gardot, iTunes tries telling me that, no matter what you though about the young generation, this 23-years-young girl does Jazz based music. And boy! That is wholeheartedly true.

5 seconds into the title song of her... The Canadian band The Wet Secrets are out with their first album, "Rock Fantasy". From what I can gather it’s their first album so they’re hopefully out to impress. Unfortunately "Rock Fantasy" won’t get them very far. I’m struggling to find anything good about it.

As soon as I started to listen...

The bands bio says that Notwist used to be a Hardcore punk band before drifting into dark brooding indie and then eventually settling on lo-fi electronica. If that is the transition the band has chosen then I can only imagine what musical option is next. I am all for bands experimenting and... Two piece bands are few and far between and this is probably because it is very difficult to pull off an amazing live show without it sounding like something is missing i.e. bass. The Black Keys are an example of a two piece band that somehow get the formular to work and from the minute this... This track starts with what can only be described as a purposeful throwback to the eighties. There are claps galore and for a moment it feels like you are listening to the Miami Vice or Beverly Hills Cop theme tunes.

If only it were that good!! After multiple listens I am wondering why this was...
These two New Yorkers are out there with their latest album ‘Brain Thrust Mastery’ and it’s fair to say they have impressed me. I haven’t heard much of their material before this album so it feels like I’m diving in at the deep end.

We Are Scientists have awesome sleek guitar riffs throughout... With the floral pattern printed throughout the album gave me a judgement that this album will be acoustic, soft music. The saying goes… ‘Never judge a book by its cover.’

The opener for the track, ‘Prelude’ starts off with a soft rhythm just before the vocals from Konstantin Gropper kicks in, then... I didn’t know what to expect with this band as I never heard of them.

To start off the album, ‘Melodies&Desires’ rhythm is very simple yet effective. Throughout the 3 minute 52 seconds song Lykke does not sing but only speaks making this an unusual but great opener to the album. Track three –...

The Autumn Effect set the bar for 10 Years impossibly high. Introspective, brutally honest and perfectly crafted, that was the kind of debut record other bands can only dream about.
