Have you considered getting a net book rather than a laptop? Their purpose in life is solely to be an internet browsing machine really and would be perfect if that's all you wanna use it for.

Here is one that is nice and cheap:

Also just so you know, 99% of the time when it comes to specs, bigger is better so a 2.1ghz processor is weaker than a 3.2ghz one OR 4GB RAM is better than 2 GB etc

That looks good, what does it have that's different to a normal laptop? Please excuse my absolut ignorance but most of the description was practically hieroglyphics...

yeah they are pricey, but you can get a nice macbook 13 " for under a £1000. i know that is crazy pricing compared to PCs but i promise you it is worth it. they are better built, have a better operating system, the company have a really good customer service department if anything does go wrong, and you get free garageband to start any musical ramblings you might have....
I had and old ibook G4 for 6 years and it never gave me any trouble at all. i still use it for the odd thing today.....says a lot really.

There will be some form of music player on there and I am sure a mini version of word or something. I have never used one myself but have been wanting to get one for a while just to take travelling etc.

I don't really mind spending a bit more if it means I wont have to replace it for 5 years +, then I'd spend £500, but if otherwise I've seen some cheapo's on this:
